Just curious to know whats the most popular/best turbo. I wanna be puttin down about 400-450whp on my GST and want a good fit, reliable, and quality turbo that meets these needs. Just going to dd this car so no need for 500+ hp turbo potential. any suggestions? I have a liking for precision turbos but dunno if they are good on DSM. new to the whole car building thing. THANKS!

Their are SO MANY of these threads on this site its crazy. Just do a google search on the topic title in , only add "for a dsm" and i will GUARANTEE that you will find several threads on this topic. But to answer you question, from what i have read i would personally go with a 20g. Just do a search on google, trust me you will get more than enough information on this subject :thumb:

The HX35 can easily make 400 and has made over 450 while being CHEAP.

But if you have to ask I doubt you will max it out, no offense but it takes a lot more work and tuning than most realize to push a turbo to it's limits.

Here we go again...
At the very least tell us about your dsm so we at least know what turbo outlet would easily fit on it
then give your definition of what "good fit" means....bolt on? install kit? How much work do you want to do to make a turbo fit on your car?
From there we go to
How much money do you want to spend?
Have you done ANY other supporting mods? Again, give us something to work with, update your profile
Once that's out of the way, if you are truly unwilling to do the research on this topic that has been covered many many times before, maybe somebody can and is willing to help you here.

quick and dirty though
everything from a totally wrung out E316g
to a barely breathing, lazy 5psi 42r could work
thats the best I think you'll get without giving us more details

So far no mods are done. I haven't started my build yet but basically its gonna be a JAM stg 2 block, 272 cams, HKS cam gears, evo valves, bored head, shep stg 2 trans, ACT clutch, mani upgraded(turbo kinda will decide the config for this), intake mani upgraded(most likely AMS), dejon intake, 3in TBE, Megan O2 housing, Tial wastegate, not decided on the BOV, AMS IC, ETS UCIP/LCIP. these are ideas strictly I have to do my research on this obviously and need to know if it will all work. I am new to car building but I have an EVO IX and did some things to it hear and there. my budget is 10k. As of right now just bought this and it is currently stripped down to a rolling shell. Let me know what you think and please keep negative comments to yourself. positive feedback is appreciated!

Also keep in mind I am new to DSMs and engine work in general

Don't take this the wrong way and It's by no means meant to be discouraging, but if you are new to engines and cars (and I'm by no means a mechanic) you really need to start from the beginning, and do enough research on your own that you can start answering these questions for yourself, because they are all interrelated, and the random choices you make based on somebody else's suggestion might not work with other random choices you've made based off of others' suggestion.

You really need to know why you are making the decisions you are making, and how those decisions will affect other decisions you've made and or will make.

Here's a personal example. One trusted friend of mine is very knowledgeable about turbo dsm's, but most of his knowledge is about 5-6 years old. So now I have a $400 SAFC neo sitting NIB, that he recommended, that after having bought, doing my own research found out was a great idea 5-6 years ago, but now its outdated and a poor choice considering the alternatives.

Little things like that.

That being said, I would suggest something Ball Bearing for its shorter spool, and thats rated for more than your goals, so you have room to grow.

I'm a big fan of the HTA 3076, thats probably where I'm going to go next once my 68hta isn't doing it for me any more.
I would recommend the 68hta but it poops out a little north of 400hp unless you totally wring it out.

start with simple mods first see how you feel, remeber got to crawl before you walk, jumping straight into a super car can be a bit much. but a good 20g turbo or a big t-28 if you prefer a ball bearing type, but in my opinion for a street car i would get a turbo that is water and oil cooled.

thank you guys and yeah I am going to have to do my research. workin my way from the motor out little bits at a time. With every step in the build process my research will help my next component to add to the project. Got 9months of snow here so got plenty of time to build for a nice summer toy :) I see a lot of the 20g and HTA around on DSM builds, must be a good choice. Agian thank you all for your imput and insight. I am always willing to listen to anyone that knows their stuff
