Hey guy i've been looking at alot of threads and still have not found a clear answer to fit what I was looking for.

I am in the market for new tires and i was curious on what size tires would be the best for my stock gsx rims. I was told the stock size is 215/50/17 but im not for sure. I need a good all season tire for snow, wet and dry but i also want a tire for the track. My car is my DD but i am more into racing than taking turns.

I am not sure what size tire would be the best size for me. I want good handling but also want a size for the track and for a DD. I was thinking 225/45/17 but i also heard that size isnt a good size so im lost on what size to get.

Also any recomendations on what tires too get would be great. I was thinking Goodyear Sport All- Season tires, so if anyone has used these let me know. My budget is around 700 dollars for the tires. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure on size, but I would skip the goodyears. As some one who sells goodyear tires and sees all the problems they have as well as having a set die on me recently I'm skeptical of goodyears. If I were you I would look into either bridgestone re970 pole positions, which I have on my car and love. There is also the nitto motivo which is a ultra high performance all season tire like the bridgestone but also comes with a 60k kile warrentie

MY suggestion to is not to sacrifice safety for performance. I've only ever run 2 kinds of all-season tires (South Louisiana doesn't get the snow problem often).

1- Hancook Ventus S1's - Amazing tire. Best water shedding tire I've ever owned and it lasts for EVER (assuming a good alignment). The traction I would say is as good as most summer performance tires(not all but most).

2- Firestone Firehawk GT's - A so-so tire by all accounts. This tire didn't last very long. Once the tire got past maybe half of it's tread life the wet performance really started to suffer. Still had decent dry traction but not on the level of the S1's.

Get a tire that is safe in your climate and that would provide a good value. Besides assuming proper driving that GSX should cut 1.6 60ft times on lawnmower tires right?:hellyeah:

Ok thanks for the fast reply guys. Does anyone have more info about what size tire would be good? I heard the 225/45/17 has to much sidewall and i want the tires to look good. I also want the most grip i can with these tires but want good handling as well.

I've got a set of continental dws on my gsx and love em. I'm in Colorado and have yet to have an issue with them in the snow. I take the car up skiing too. Thread wear is solid. Decent price. And they grip wonderfully for an all season when its dry out.

A 225/45 tire looks good imo. It's not exactly a low profile tire but it will still look fine. It won't leave an unusually large gap like a smaller ratio tire will. There will be a better contact patch due to the wider tire (performance/safety) and will offer better protection for the wheels. A 235/45 will look better and perform better but I'm not sure they will fit without rubbing.

This is a pic with 225/45 tires on stock wheels. Although this car is lowered it seems.

225 will fit fine, but I wouldn't go any wider than that unless you intend to do some extra modification to avoid rubbing.

I'd go with either Hankook or Nitto imo.

What offset are the wheels? I know with a 17x7 +40 you can fit a 235/45/17 on them without rubbing. I can't find the website right now but if you google "widest tire on a dsm" you can find a calculator that will list what sizes work with no to little rubbing.

225/45/17 are good since the sidewall is not too small and not so big to look weird but still give a comfortable ride. I will disagree with the earlier poster about Goodyears. I had Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3s on my Talon and they were the best tire I had ever had....period. Even when they were showing cords I was still cutting 1.6xs and running mid 10's. The grip was phenomenal and if you have seen the tread on those, they cut through water and snow even though really a max performance summer tire.

My GVR4 has Azenis 225/45/17 tires and you can see what the tire profile looks like.

Just got a set of the Continental DWS on my GST, so far they've handled the snow amazing I am quite surprised.

FWIW OP, I got 225/45/18 and they fill up the wheel well on stock ride height perfectly.

I have Goodyears on my Talon right now. They are the Eagle F1 All Seasons (have been discontinued). They are a directional tire and I was amazed at the traction (wet, dry and snow), steering response and handling. These are in need of replacing. I am putting on their replacement the Eagle F1 Asymetric All Season (non directional). Haven't put them on the talon yet but got to test drive them on a couple of BMW 3 series coupes. I work for Goodyear and they let us test drive them when they were new and also test drive the Michelin competition on the exact same 3 series. The grip and responsiveness was amazing! The car felt like it was AWD! You really had to work to get it to break loose and slide. Wet traction was wear they really outshined the Michelins.

I agree with the rest your tire size will be fine. I have 2354517 on mine and clearance is tight so buyer beware.

As far as Goodyear tires go they are like every other manufacturer there are certain ones that have more problems than others. Also driver use (or abuse) and lack of maintenance (tire pressures, rotations and alignments) can cause a lot of problems too. This often gets blamed on the tire. I kept my F1 All Seasons rotated every oil change. The toe on the alignment was kept under control and camber was adjusted as much as possible with out adding parts (haven't gotten that far yet). There was some wear from the camber but keeping them rotated often helped keep this from becoming a major problem on any certain tire.

I have heard good things about the Continental DWSs also and have thought about buying those but with my discount and rebates I get it has been Goodyears so far.

The eagle f1 all seasons are what I had on my gsx and I was very impressed with the grip however, they went completely bald with wires showing in less than 10k miles. I just expect longer longevity out of my tires.

I saw several sets of those have similar problems. Mine did really well for whatever reason. We did product adjustments on the ones that got really low miles like that. The new version actually has a mileage warranty even for vehicles with staggered sizes which I haven't heard of another company doing. I believe the problems they had is why they aren't around any more.
