I'm currently running Falken Azenis 215 tires in 205/55-16 on my stock 16x6.5s.

I was very happy with the traction with these. Unfortunately the new Azenis 615s are not available in a good size for the stock wheels.

I am looking at the Kumho MX and Hankook ventus RS2 Z212.

I was about to go ahead and get the Hankooks until I read a Grassroots motorsports auto-x tire comparo where they said they experienced a lot of wheelspin with the hankooks ,compared to the falkens and kumhos. Yet they still liked the hankooks better than the kumho MXs. WIth their top pick as the new Falken 615 (and no longer available 215)

I have been running a 55-series tire to minimize wheel hop and wheelspin. I have GC coils/konis shocks which are doin a decent job.

What's the best bet for straightline traction? I plan to keep the 205/55-16 size for better straightline traction. I am not as concerned with traction from a LAUNCH as i am from a 1st gear and 2nd gear roll.

Also, would sidewall still be more important than width, for longitudinal traction? Meaning will I grip better with 205/55s than with , say, 215/45s or 215/50s?

No such thing, go to SRT4 forums and over to the hondaones for better info.

The best tire is a NITTO Drag Radial, and its a very very good street tire and you get alot of miles out it making it the best choice. All street tires are junk when it comes to high hp FWD cars. Sorry but thats the only thing I can tell you, and you need somthign with side wall those little rubber band performance tires will just spin.

Also it doesnt matter how wide the contact patch is if the compound isnt good and its to stiff its going to spin no matter how wide it is etc

The only problem's with drag radials is that they will wear down faster than your average tire, they can be expensive, and if you get caught in the rain...good luck!

I just purchased the Kuhmo Ecsta MX tires, and i love them. I got the really wide 245/45/17's and the straight line performance is more than what i expected out of a "street" tire. For the 1st and 2nd gear rolls, these tires do good for me. I have a few mods(look in profile) and they just barely break loose in a 1st gear roll when compared too my old 215/45/17 hankook venturis or whatever. Keep in mind though, that with our FWD cars, no matter which tire you get, without an LSD you have a huge chance of spinning. Ya know how sometimes one spins...then other times both spin? I dont know your budget, but...if you want the best straightline traction, an LSD with decent tires will always be better than no LSD with awesome tires. Just somethin to think about! hope it helps.

Well it seems like there is nothing short of online masturbation for the Azenis 615

Unfortunately there is no size out right now that will fit well on the stock 16s. I would consider the 215/45-16s, but that is a bit of a lower profile than i'd like, and the price is over $100/tire.

Compared to the Hankook 212s @ around $80/tire, that is $80-100 in savings going with the hankooks.

The more Ive read about the Kumho MX, the less I'm liking it.

Anything stickier than the hankooks? I want to spend under $100/tire to mount on the stock 16s, and it seems like that is my best bet

If i knew they were discontinuing the azenis 215s , I'd have bought a set months ago! I'm not expecting the car to shoot out 1.8 60' times, but I would like a tire that HOOKS well on the stock rims

Hankook 212 vs Kumho MX

225's on the stock 16" wheels

thinkin the hankook will have a stiffer sidewall and hold up better on the narrow wheels during corners, and have greater contact patch than the 205 kumhos? despite the kumhos being softer and probably better striaghtline traction in the same size? i feel like kumho MX in 225 would roll over the sidewall in hard corners on the stock rims

what about the eagle f1's? ive heard those are some bad ass tires, but they look as if there main priority is cornering and good wet traction? and nvm those, becuase you will spend more than 80-100 a tire.

I just purchased a set of toyo t1r and there great with traction.I also wanted a straightline tire with great traction and i have found it.It is more pricey than others but well worth it to me.

i have 17" tires on my gs for the street.. when i go to the track i use 16" rims and tires with about 16-20 psi air pressure.. lowering your pressure really helps at the track.. i also run a little lower pressure in my tires for the street too, my tires should run about 32 psi but i run about 27-28 psi it helps a little.. i am running slicks at the track next year.. hopefully ill get my 60 fts down under 1.9

I have eagle F1's on a set of 17's. They don't last long, when it rains you cant tell the road is wet, and straight line and handling is absolutely ridiculous. Expensive but worth every penny.

I use 225/55/16 on my car, and they feel good. They are some michelin tires, I think it's Pilot MX or something like that. They have a AA traction rating, I know I'm not turbo but I have prothane m/mounts on all 4 mounts plus those tires, and they hardly hop, except on a bad bumpy road. They spin a bit, but only if launching from first gear.

I used to own a srt4 and i ran a 225/45/17 bfg drag radial, I went 13.0 on them on nitrous but i still pulled horrible 60fts. The best I've seen is someone using a 245/45/17 nitto 555r and he pulled a 1.9 60 and went 12.8 but that was at a better track. I know the bfg and nitto hooked around the same to me but a r compound tire is what you will need. One thing I've learned is dont lower a street radial even r compound lower than 20 psi unlees you have a big sidewall i cracked my bfgs doing that

I would say your best straight line tire is a slick.. I used to think nitto 555's were the sh*t.. Then I learned there was no play in the side wall..

No play in side wall = broken drive train parts w/o proper suspension/tranny work..

THATS MY OPINION through experience with every type of car under the son..

I would say go with Hoosiers!!.. But thats if your looking to go in a straight line! :thumb:

Whatever size tire you plan on using... the BEST street tire in my opinion is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Its an all season tire that is excellent in wet/dry traction. Michelins are kind of expenisive but you pay for what you get. Michelin is the number one tire company out there. Michelins are factory on Porsches and many top end cars.
