Best sounding/performance exhaust for a dsm

hey i have a full exhaust system magnaflow..... 2.5" down pipe, 3" piping and 4" tiip, doesnt' sound to bad but i want something thats a bit louder and nicer especially when i'm downshifting and upshifting of course. Want something thats sounds mean NOT ricey. i was looking at the hks and apex n1 set ups they look pretty good. If any of you guys have any suggestions let me know.

what i mean is unbolting the exhaust from the down pipe back, it seems your looking for a mean sound, this way will sound meaner than a n1 or hks. i had 3" n1 turbo back on my gsx it sounds pretty good
 
Hope ya'll mean track only cars when you refer to cut outs and open downpipes. If you get caught on the road with one of these, you will be screwed since it is a federal offense. It's also awful for the environment. Think of the kids. :cry:

over here in winnipeg nobody care...LOL. There are tons of cars with no cats or even no resornators.....:toobad:
 
Personally, I like www.rnrracing.com 's turbo back exhausts.

Ive had 3., the price, and the quality make it a perfect setup.

but expect a month to get it.

and expect to be told it was shipped out 3 different times,
haha....

and expect to take it to a exhaust shop to have the hangers modified so you can use them.

but all in all, definatly recommended.

open DP sounds like ASS!

I have the 3" SS RNR Racing turbo back exhaust and I like it a lot. I got the Magnaflow muffler which was a little more than their standard muffler, but I love the sound of it. At idle is has a very nice growl and fitment works well. The only thing I'd suggest if you get it is to make sure that you clamp it down good since it is slip fit. I neglected to do so at first and the straight pipe popped off on one side, no harm done, but I made sure it was tight after that. :tease:
 
I think what type of exhaust you choose to run really depends on where your location is. In Wisconsin im pretty sure no one gives a crap what you run unless its super loud. (No emmision controls or if there are some I've never heard of them) There are rednecks all over the place who run just straight pipes, when they see a cop they just idle past.

My Talon's muffler fell off and I've been running with just the stock exhaust with a huge leak at the cat and no muffler, its not even that loud:D

Is this totally different than say, California? Do you guys get like random tested for emissions and loudness? Is it when you get pulled over and they see you got a tricked out car they hassle you for proof of a cat, or how loud it is etc??:confused: (if so thats gotta suck!)
 
I hated running no cat and no muffler 3" straight back. Everyone could hear me coming from 1/2 a mile away (not even exaggerating). It was impossible to have a conversation with anyone in the car, impossible to hear the radio...And God forbid there was a cop near.

But if you want loud, that's the way to go.

Or just delete your cat, that will make your exhaust louder.

I got rid of my cat and it didn't make much if any of a difference. (I thought it would but it didn't).

To the original poster:
Have you ever thought about a custom Dump tube? That will add more sound to your car and it sounds pretty ballsy when your turbo is spooling. I sound like a Jet taking off when passing someone. Pretty awesome.
 
I don't want it be loud and ricey, its a dsm not a honda...LOL. I just want a nice and mean sound, especailly at idle and when i'm accelrating/downshifting.

i ran open manifolds on my 400pontiac...all i got was a noise violation and a 14 day fix it ticket (after driving around for weeks without any police intervention.) i dunno about any federal offenses...and it was way louder/worse for the environment than probably 90% of turbo dsm's (it ran way rich and lets say a lot of that fuel came out of the exhaust due to no backpressure...LOL)

for exhausts i would go with something that is muffled pretty well, imo dsm's with huge diameter exhausts and resonating tips/mufflers sound like loud mosquitoes...
 
ha ha !! i bet you haven't hear or been in an open dp RX7 before..... i used to run 2 1/2 open downpipe on it and.................................OMG it was the loudeds thing ever

but i agree also any 3" exhaust sound nice on a DSM.
 
"the best sounding exhaust" is all subjective. If you ask me, the Apexi N1 doesn't sound too bad. I'm happy with mine! :thumb:

btw, I have quite a few DSM exhaust clips on my computer. If anyone can host them, I'd be glad to post them up.
