There are many PDA's out there and of those, about half or so are compatible with the pocketlogger software for the 1g's.

I will be purchasing the software and hotsync cable at the end of the month from www.pocketlogger.com. As there info is a little old about what is compatible and what is not and the best bang for your buck, I thougt I would bring this up and see what you had to say. :)

I am looking for a palm to use that has the following minimum requirements:

-Color screen (for colored graphs)
-Backlit (for night time tuning)
-Decent memory (for storing pictures)
-$150.00 or less
-dependability (will not stop working after a year)

Thanks everyone. :)

That would be cool. I really appreciate it.

I have been hearing about the m100, m105, and m500's. I am assuming the m500 is the higher end version is it worth paying more for....

Try looking on Ebay for a Palm IIIc, It's a cheap color palm that works well with MMCD for datalogging and is easy to see day and night. Plus the lith/ion battery holds a charge longer than a couple of "AA" bateries in most other PDA's. I have one and my buddy has me looking for one for him to use..

a palm IIIc for $56 + shipping.

Damn not a bad deal!!

color screen!!!!

The wife even liked the " hey hun you can download the US Atlas onto it!!!"
You can play color games on it too!!

Sweet.

Now I need a cable, software, and what else to datalog???

Thanks,

I picked up a Palm M130 with a color screen off of Ebay for $100. Brand new also in the box never opened. There's always a few brand new ones going on Ebay. Came with the craddle with hotsync. I did however have to buy another Hotsync cable that would fit the cable that connects to the car's diagnostic port.

Also if you need a Hotsync cable Amazon.com has them for $15 which was the cheapest I found.

If you get one make sure that it has a lithum battery. I have the 105 and if the batteries go dead then I lose the logger software and have to reload it. Its not that hard becasue I have the software on my comp but it is a pain. Just that i would let you know.

I got a Palm M105 for Very cheap.

It's not color, but it has nice indiglo-style backlighting for nighttime use. The batteries last quite a long time (I bought NImh rechargables, and have a spare set always recharging) even with the backlight on for hours on end. It's very rugged. The other software that comes with the palm is pretty good, I use it for addresses and phone numbers if I can't find a piece of paper around, but I hardly use it for anything other than a datalogger.

If you want a new flashy one to actually use otherwise, I would recommend something else though.

I think I am going to go with the M130. It is just under 150.00 from the places I found online and has really good ratings when compared to the m505 or m515.

Palm OS 4.1 (pocketlogger acceptable)
STN passive matrix color screen w/ backlit 160 x 160 res
33 mhz, 8mb ram, 4 mb rom
SD mem card slot
1 irDA, 1 usb - 4 pin USB Type A
Lithium Ion Battery w/ charger

You had mentioned the hotsync cable it comes with will not connect to the cable that connects to your diagnostic port? (I assume you end up with ECU --> Cable --> HotSync Cable --> PDA).

For 15.00 I can get the correct cable from Amazon? Pocketlogger suggests getting the hotsync cable from them when you get the software and cable for the diag port. But if it is cheaper to get it somewhere else and it works....
