You don't want 5 weight in a turbo motor-oil's too thin for our bearing clearances...unless you live in either Alaska or down on Antarctica.
You're absolutely correct in that Mitsubishi recommends that viscosity, however 5 weight is just fine, even in the summer time. This motor has been using 5 weight for years and the bearings look like brand new on visual inspection - you can verify this on the analysis shown below. The 5 weight makes absolutely no difference - it's the latter weight rating that counts once the motor is warmed up. This was taken with a blown head gasket, right before the engine got yanked. As you can see, bearing wear is perfect, and all this motor has ever seen is 5w30, even in 100+ degree weather.
