Im in a crunch for time really guys, but I have someone whos offering me a brand new AEM Short ram intake for $110 flat. Im A/T as well and this will be my first non-interior mod...should I buy this? I read that someone said i need lots of water....shouldnt be hard, right? Opinions NEEDED!!! Thanks!

I would recommend a turbo. Before you know it you'll be spending all this money on stuff that barely gives you any gains. When you add up all that money, you're already half way at a turbo kit.

You can get a nice 2 piece cold air intake off of nopi ecat, for 70 bucks.

GO to ebay and buy a cold air intake for only 20 bucks(40 shipped) and it wil save you a hell of alot of money, I bought one off ebay and it works great i mean worse case scenerio the piping is there for you, you can always keep the piping on there and get a kn filter instead...

Thanks for the response!

I heard that headers don't really add much, so is it really necessary to get them? (after CAI & exhaust)

Also, can you give me a rough idea of how much that would cost?
I have a 97 RS with pacesetter headers/downpipe($400), Apexi N1 cat back(ebay-$252...normally $600)...

Where you bending over when purchasing a PACESETTER header & Flexpipe for $400?

wow i didnt even notice that one... ouch... any trouble walking?

Get the ebay special 4-2-1 header , stock gst cat back you could find for cheap, swap out the muffler for once again a ebay special can have an exhaust shop weld it up. Get a ebay special short ram and extend it with some custom pvc tubing for a CAI.
Drop some weight esp. front and back bumper stops (free) forget udp's save money just take off your ps and ac belt you feel it rev up quicker(free)
Get rid of those v-split plugs heard bad things get some ngk Iridiums they withstand all that heat better forget platinum also :thumb: :talon:

LOL sorry 160-170 thats going to take alot of work here ill help you on your way to not wanting a NT.

Modifications:

GS-T muffler, Iceman cold air intake, AFX underdrive pulley, Brospeed header, Apexi Super AFC, Extrude Honed intake manifold, 2.5 inch RRE high flow cat converter, AEM adjustable camshaft gears, stock 14 inch rims and tires.

Tuning:

Cam gears set to +4 degrees advance on the intake cam, 0 degrees on the exhaust cam.

Apexi Super AFC set to: -3 percent at 2000 rpms, -4 percent at 3000 rpms, -4 percent at 4000 rpms, -0 percent at 4500 rpms, -7 percent at 5000 rpms, and -10 percent at 6000 rpms and higher.

I am sorry to say that the lose of power from crank to wheels sucks balls. Thats why I went and got a turbo kit. you can set the boost level to 5 psi no worries on your stock internals and leave it there, if all you want is a lil hp. Now if your a freaking car nut like me my dad and my lil bro you can check my mods list or any of the other guys on this board with NT/with Turbo cars. I am not trying to be a dick or smash your dreams...just showing you that NT BLOW unless they are turbo charged. I raced my brothers RS in the .25 once and he was so far behind me I thought his car had died. And he had a CAI, Greddy Header, No Cat, Greddy Evo Exhaust, New Cams and Agj Cam Gears, UDP 10:1 Comp Pistons with new rods on 110Oct Fuel P&P Head & TB with Venom Intake Mani. I am only running 93Oct + my mods with some good tuning. My dad told him that money spent on his car for them mods was a wast of time and money and with it could have bought a turbo kit......my brother was very pissed off as he did not know much about cars at the time But if you must go check out this web addy2GNT Power MODS

Hey guys,

Ive been reading these forums for quite sometime, i guess i was rather shy to sign up, heh...I own a 97 a/t rs..i did some mods to it im really tryna do a few other pick up things..

so far i have done:
intake - short ram - i.m.o i figured id do this to get better pick up being i am auto...
dc headders - 4-2-1
exhaust

and ive recently modified my cars sound system, but im sure thats not important granted i put my all into that system..

a friend of mine who has a 99 oz rally gs eclipse recently took out his cat. is that a smart move? i mean i can always bypass inspection thats not the issue, will it hurt my car in anyway? if so should i replace with someone more effiencent along with a straight pipe..
i also want to get msd iginiton and coils...

future possibilties, turbo kit,

will it kill my tranny , axels or anything else, i dont even want to beef it up..but id like to be assured the power is there.....

You don't have to worry aobut breaking anything, because our cars do not make any power all-motor. some guy on 2GNT had a huuuge amount of mods doing an all-motor build-up and he dyno'd at barely 150whp. For the amount of money he spent, he could have a turbo setup with more like 330whp.
ALL-MOTOR ON OUR CARS IS A WASTE OF MONEY

And to answer your question, the cat delete does not hurt anything(you might burn up an o2 sensor, but there is a cel mod for that) A test pipe and a "hiflo cat" are the same thing. I removed my cat the other day and replaced it with a "hiflo", its just a resonator/straight pipe. Out of curiousity I peaked inside of the old cat, trying to see how much light got thru..... NONE that is how restrictive that thing is. I love the new feel, the car likes to rev, and IMO I have more power, I don't understand this bullshit about backpressure being a requirement for our cars. My family builds hotrods and the less restrictive the exhaust the better, so thats what I'm doing and it's working.

EDIT: BTW my car ran fine before the cat delete, and it runs fine now. You guys that have problems with your cat deletes need to check things out....like the grounding strap that used to be mounted too the stock cat, make sure you reground it on the new pipe.

how many times do i have to tell you, there is such a thing as a high flowing catalytic converter, its not just the resonator thing you bought. thats basically a test pipe with a little muffleing power, its not a real high flow cat as advertised.

When have you ever told ME? I know there is a such a thing as a real Hi flo cat, but most people aren't going to fork out the 300$ it costs to get one. I have explained that I know mine is a resonator, or are you missing that part

Hey all,

Sorry I went on a hiatus for a while. Will work on the car as soon as summer hits :D

Thanks for all the help! :thumb:

Well My idea for a cheap way to get noticeable difference ( not power adding) is to help out that crank power to wheel power, on my Rs i bought the Energy Motor Mount Inserts and they made a big difference with whp :D .....just a thought...i paid like 18 bucks off ebay for them shipped :dsm:

WTF i hope that whp stood for wheel hop and not wheel horsepower... and if it didnt, go with it anyway :shhh:

Hey all I want to thank you guys for the help! In the end I went over to the dark side and got a turbo 2g :shhh:

Well, you n/t guys have fun with your car and lower insurance rates! :p (surprisingly the turbo Talon's rates are the same as the Eclipse...right now anyway)
