Best direction for SUB to point? Towards front or rear?

Just curious what everybody's experience is with sub positioning? I have an MTX 4250D mono amp and 12" kicker in sealed box. It's pointed towards the rear and i'm satisfied. However, is there a difference in sound production if faced towrads the front of the car?

towards the rear

personally, i have ALWAYS thought that towards the rear sounds better in any hatchback. I personally have had just about every major brand sub in every kind of box in my 94 talon, and they have ALL sounded better when pointed towards the back. Dont know the dynamics behind it, i know it has something to do with the glass, but i don't know why :p

Always face the subs toward the most solid side of the hatch/trunk (typically the rear). I competed in SPL competitions for many years and we found the best results for a sub in a sealed box was when it was firing toward the most solid surface in the hatch.

On a DSM, the most solid surface would either be the rear wall or the hatch glass.

pesonally I found mine to sound the best firing up, but hey thats me LOL

Way back when, I used to have them facing the rear.

Now I don't have any. Fear Factory just isn't the same without them, either. :|

:rocks:

YEAH! I have also had mine facing up towards the glass making the sound bounce off it at 90 degrees, and it sounded kick rear!

I have tried both ways and with them facing the rear they sound alot better and have alot more bass to them. :dsm:

my subs/box are so big i have to face them up its the only way they fit in my car haha.
they are 2 15 inch boston acoustics generators 1500. they are old school and still pound. 1.5 cubic foot box for each one.

i wanna get the new boston acoustic g512s they look really good and arent to expensive only like 250 shipped on ebay, 400 msrp. boston acoustics have the most reliable subs and can take a beating, i pound them almost everytime im in my car and they still take it.

How much of this info still applies if you have that stock carpeted cardboard trunk cover thing?

without the hatch cover or with it?

at first my sub box was too tall that the hatch cover had to be removed.. however i removed the spare tire and the fake floor board broke because of the weight of the sub/box/amp.. so now i just placed the box in the spare tire location.. facing the rear but slightly pointed up.. also note it is now sitting at a lower elevation.. it does sound like it hits harder.. but now i can put back the hatch cover (it is broken at the moment thus my question or i would have tested myself).. so would sound be better with it back on or just leave it off?
