Hey Tuners, I am wondering which 2g Eclipse front bumper should supply the best airflow to the smic on a 2g. I know alot of people are going to say just skip the smic and go fmic, but I am set on an upgraded smic, so please(in the nicest way possible) refrain from suggesting a fmic instead, this is not a sm vs fm thread/flame war. Also, I know the 2gb front bumper is supposed to be the best for airflow to a fmic, but I am curious about airflow to a Smic.

I have a 1996 Eclipse Gsx, with completely stock 2ga body. I really like the 2ga Eclipse front bumper, and I also like the 2gb front bumper (but will stick to 2ga rear and sides just fyi), but I want to know which of these 2 front bumpers offer the best/most airflow to a Smic. Please (as nice as possible) do not suggest a fmic, or Talon bumper, just the best Eclipse bumper for a Smic. (I am set on a Smic, and will search and wait as long as I have to in order to get the smic I want. I am also set on using an Eclipse bumper instead of a Talon bumper, just curious about air flow to the smic)

Thank You!
New Dsm'er!

You know my answer :p The 2gb Talon will provide the best airflow, although, if you use the stock location for the foglights on the 2gb Eclipse as additional air ducts, I would say you may have just a bit more than the Talon. Haven't had a chance to test this yet, but in measurements comparison for surface area and duct angle, this seems to be logical.

Just in case you want to maximise the 2gb Eclipse bumper, this is a good way to achieve it, but you'll have to modify the bumper, which I'm positive you don't want to do.

Don't throw out the stock SMIC duct. Do what you can do to keep it on there.

Well if he ever goes with the Super SMIC, the original duct is worthless. Too small to use as is, and not worth modifying to fit as it's more trouble than it's worth. Making one from scratch or getting one from a car with a bigger SMIC (i.e. supra duct) is far more worthwhile.

Correct, I really don't want to modify either front bumper to where you can tell its not stock, nor delete the stock foglights or convert to a Talon bumper. Just curious which Eclipse bumper would allow the best airflow to the smic, thought it seems 2gb has a larger opening. And I do plan to keep the stock ducting until I create a larger, hopefully better duct, along with opening up the fender liner for better airflow. Would it be beneficial to add a small puller fan to the back upgraded smic to help cool it at low speeds or full time (or would that hinder airflow/cooling ability), or re-route the washer nozzles to spray on the smic untill I get around to a co2 sprayer, or w/m injection or some other form of cooling?

2gb would be better, catches air more efficiently. The 2ga (aka smiley :p) is better for a FMIC, the duct on the passenger side is relatively small. The puller fan will hinder airflow, specially during cruising and high throttle. It would only be good when stationary, so it's not worth the trouble. You can spray the smic, but you'll need a fine mist to make it worthwhile. Water/Meth injection are you best solution for high throttle. easily hidden away, only used when needed and cooling efficiency far surpasses any other add on.

Ok, so 2gb front bumper, no silly fan, re-route wiper nozzles to spray IC surface for the time being (free to $5, so It can't be thaaat bad) untill I can get around to w/m injection?

That sounds like a plan. Also, if you're looking for more airflow, when you end up making your own duct, give it a scoop that's lower than the bumper. You won't see it from far but it'll grab more air (they do the same mode for FMIC's as well) and you don't hack anything.

Like a Naca scoop on the bottom of the smic duct, poking out the bottom of the front bumper? Im sure I could figure out a way to do so without being able to see it unless your under the car.
