my head keeps bending valves the timing is right on and i keeps bending them. i have replaced them 3 times the first the timing belt broke, the secong the timing was off, and now this time i bent the 4 on the 3rd cylnder cant figure it out any suggestions? :talon:

Are you just replacing the belt? If so you also need to replace the idler pulley, tensioner pulley, tensioner it's self? Also good idea to replace the water pump. Is there any marks any where, like rubbing on something?

Also follow the directions on VFAQ to a tee.

Only 2 things can bend valves. 1 Timing belt has jumped teeth. This is an interference fit engine. This means that at different times, the valves and pistons occupy exactly the same space. If this becomes the same time, the pistons move the valves out of the way. This results in bent valves.
2 Debris in the engine. If something has gotten in the engine this could bend valves. This is highly unlikely but possible.
I would wager you have been installing the auto tensioner/tensioner pulley wrong. Describe on here what you are doing exactly and post a couple of pictures of your results.

That way we can post and tell you what you need to be doing to correct it. Remember, from our previous posts, you need to change the following. Auto tensioner, idler pulleys, I would do a balance shaft elimination because those things start trying to seize up as they get older. This stresses the timing belt and can cause this problem. Water pump because it's behind the belt, although it's not driven by the belt it's a pain to change if it leaks.

There's a method to this madness. When you do all of these things and do them right, you can drive a very long time and not have to worry about your belt jumping. I'm going to Kansas City in an hour with mine. No problems.

Good Luck.

Just a quick question can a BS elimination be done with the motor in the car and how much harder is it to do? I got a 1g 7-bolt motor.

It can be done with the motor in the car. The biggest problem with eliminating them with the motor in is getting the block off bearing on the inside of the block. All I did was pull the drivers side motor mount and the cross member and the engine was able to lower enough to get to the front case.
