Belt squeal

Okay so I got my car about two weeks ago and had to replace the spark plugs and wires, the fuel filter and the battery terminals because it would randomly stall when stopping and we assumed those were causing it. But recently the belt started squealing and I looked at the other forums and most say they squeal on start up. Mine, however does it at random while driving. It starts out soft and continues to get louder and louder until it makes a sort of clunking sound and stops then I get the lovely smell of burnt rubber. I've checked it out and sprayed it with wd40 and another lubricant and they work for about a day and it starts again. Sometimes after the squeal the check engine light will come on and then I'll start having the stalling issues again, but mostly if I stop to abruptly or if I'm going slow for too long and then stop. And of course the hook up for the code reader is damaged so I can't even find out what it is. My bf used to have an eclipse and he doesn't even know whats going on with it. Idk if this is enough info to help but I really don't know what else to include.

+1 Belts are an inexpensive replacment. And since your bf has DSM knowlege he is a good candidate to replace it for you. You can only use that belt squeek spray for so long before your belt hits total failure.

Check the tension as well. Tight belts will squeal and wear out faster. Good luck

have you checked your crank damper/pulley to see if it is damaged or worn out, or falling apart? might want to do that. its a quick thing to check and will save you a headache. same thing happend to me... and mine was bad..

Check the bottom mount on the alternator. I have seen them on my own and other dsms where the bolt acually vibrated out causing the alternator to go sideways and eating the belt.

i also am haveing this problem but im going through belts like crazy like 3 belts in less then a year so do our cars need there pulleys realighnd or what (sorry for bad spelling). o yea its the alternator belt to and there is rubber all over inside there to

Ya I had that problem with my alternator belt , but I took my car to a garage after I put the fourth belt on and the guy told me that they have been selling my the wrong size so we put the new one on and I have got 5 months out of her now haha

but im sure i got the right size and thats how long my last is about 5 months and then the snap

make sure all your bolts are there and tight

well do i have to use loc tight because i crank those bolts down
