Hey all,
I was starting to replace my clutch tonight when I noticed a large crack in the bellhousing of my tranny. I was wondering if this might be compatible with the bellhousing of any 1G manual car, or does it necessarily need to be a turbo car or does it need to be a turbo AWD car?
Thanks,
Jeff

Your going to need another transmission from another AWD 1G turbo dsm. Im not sure if any other transmission would fit, you MIGHT possibly be able to fit a 1G turbo FWD transmission in there but Im not sure how well it would fit. Doing this would be incredibly stupid unless it was just a temporarily solution.

Hopefully I don't need a whole new transmission though? Just the bellhousing. I think that's what it's called. It bolts directly to the block. The yellow line represents the crack. Would that work the same way, or could I grab one off of a non-turbo or non-AWD?
Thanks,
Jeff

Did the weld hold up alright? I'm thinking about just having mine welded, cause it'd probably be cheapest.

it can be tig welded. i believe the ends of the crack should be drilled. this will help prevent further cracking. the crack must be ground out or opened up. when welding, if black is coming out of the weld, keep welding and then grind it all back out. you'll flush out the contaminates that are in the metal. weld it again and you should be good to go.

You would need another bellhousing from a 1g awd. The bellhousing also contains the section for the tc ouput shaft. A fwd turbo or nt will not have the accomdations for an output shaft or even the bolt holes to mount the transfer case to.

As long as it is welded properly by a professional, it should hold up fine. Just make sure both dowel pins are there to align the tranny to the block. If not, you will break something again.
