Yesterday i bought a 99 eclipse gsx. its bone stock and very clean with 113000 miles on it. I love the car so far and i wanna start thinking about some mods. i'm still new to cars, i mean i can change brakes and oil but i'm not a expert. anyone have suggestions on some cost effective, safe, easy mods? I was thinking about a new exahst system but not sure if it will effect my performance or not. thx!

Do all maintenance before you think about modding it.
If you don't know the last time something was done, do it.

Maintenence. As said above. Your timing belt service at 120k is coming up. Might as well do it all now. Fluids, belts, water pump, check hoses and do a BLT, and so on and so forth.

Look at the upper left hand side of the site. There is a tab that says "Tech". Under it there will be "Upgrade Paths". Check them out, they will get you started.

Yea just do a full 3inch exhaust, get a intake from injen or ebay(works the same) make sure it has a recirculation tube on it, hard piping from dejon powerhouse for the side mount intercooler or just purchase a front mount kit. If you can swap your 2g bov for a 1g bov. But before all of that do a maintnaince run down. Change oils, timing belt, water pump spark plugs the spark plug wires all of that stuff.

Well you can find a upgrade path on here that will tell you what you need to pick up. It's a real good read and will help out new guys a ton! Read it and follow it! you'll buy only the things you need and not useless stuff. personally Aside from what the Upgrade Path says i would buy a 3" exhaust, down pipe, intake, hard intercooler piping, better BOV, and a boost controller and bump the boost up 2lbs. No more than 2 though until you get a logger and some fuel upgrades. REMEMBER MAINTENANCE FIRST!!!:thumb:

There is a tech section about this.
but
K&N Air filter/intake upgrade
Exhaust (higher flow manifold, Downpipe, high flow cat, or cat delete, cat back system with high flow muffler)
Maintainance
Spark plugs ( will help burn better )

Then you get into the turbo part:
upgrade piping
new turbo
intercooler
bov
boost controller
AIC

the first ones are easier to install but don't add much power
the second ones are not much harder to install and a new turbo might need some tuning
and the second ones add a bit more power and efficiency depending on the job and tuning...

fwiw, I'm upgrading my car in small increments with a mild build in mind, and this is my 2g upgrade path and an idea of what I've paid:

dash gauge pod - $20 new
boost gauge - $30 new
intake - $80
o2 back exhaust - $600 new
bcs restrictor removed - free :D

wideband o2 - $160 new
tial bov - $65 used
upper intercooler S hardpipe - $90 new
upper intercooler L hardpipe - still trying to source a used one
lower intercooler hardpipe - $30 used
hks ebc - $150 used
fuel pump rewire - $15 new

openport 2.0 cable - $185 new
evoscan - $30 new
evo9 560cc injectors - $85 used

big t28 - $350 used

alcohol/water injection - not yet purchased

so in conclusion, damn... modding these cars isn't cheap. X)
