Well first i would like to thank all the experts for what i have already learned, ive been reading on here for a long time. This weekend i will be attempting a build thread for my turbo install, havent done one before. Here is what i am starting with, on a 97 gst spyder.
Already have...
1. greddy big fmic, hard piping, bov
2.full apexi exhaust

Installing...
1. 20g turbo apparently rebuilt by Justin
2. safc2

Need to order...
1.650cc injectors
2.Walbro 255
3.Install kit for turbo

My goals for this are builing a streetable weekend warrior with 350fwhp on pump gas, on a current budget of about 2k. I am totally inexperienced with the tuning so i have more reading to do on that. I will appreciate any thoughts as i go along, and corrections to the mistakes i may make!:thumb:

I will remind you of one of the biggest mistakes people make, not priming the turbo. Once you finish the install don't get excited and fire it up, make sure you remove the mpi fuse and turn the engine over 3 times for 10-15 seconds with a few seconds between each time.

If I were you, ditch the safc and go with ecmlink. For a little more $ you can have the ecmlink and you will not regret it. And for the walbro, get a re-wire kit or make your own, plus you might need a AFR with that. You have a wideband yet? If not, get 1.

I have a set of 650s fics ill sell you if your interested. But other than that, +1 for link. I went safc and have had an electrical system nightmare because of it. I.e. slicing up the ecu harness to incorporate it. Just food for thought

thanks for the responses. i have seen quite a few suggestions on the ecmlink. i guess i am just a little intimidated with my lack of tuning knowledge. i kinda figured 350 would be about the best i could push this motor but i dont know how crazy i want to get with this build. if i keep the car and build a motor i will just do an awd conversion as well but those are pipe dreams now. where would be a get place to buy the ecmlink and is it user friendly? also i may be interested in the injectors PM me what you want for them. wideband was on my list but forgot to mention that. Also throwing around the idea of getting an evoIII manifold too right away

I agree. As long as he has the supporting mods, how exactly is 350 going to shorten the motors life span? There are tons of users on here running stock internals and handling more than 350. If the maintenance is up to par and done regularly he will have no issues. THAT is what shortens the motors lifespan, not modding it. Try to be more descriptive before people take that the wrong way. :)

Friend makes 350whp 20g 880cc injectors e85 20psi of boost. Don't except alot on sutch a small setup that your going with like with safc r small injectors, you need what my friend atleast has. Go bigger injectors and ditch the safc you won't be safe tuning, let alone happy with how basic and crappy the tune will be with an safc. It would be wasted money on sutch a decent setup. Hope that gives you a mind set.

Forget about evo3 manifold, save your money on external WG. Port your 2g ex mani, since your replacing your turbo anyway. Get the o2 housing dump or recirculated with WG. Just my .02 cents.

thanks guys. i will read up on the E85 tuning some more tonight. Where would be a good place to get the ecmlink and how easy is it to use?

You'll need to pull out your ECU and mail it to them, so plan on not driving the car for at least a week. Best mod you can ever do though, hands down.

well i havent drivin the car since last spring so im not worried about that. Im on their website now reading and learning what i can. I think i pulled the trigger early on buying the safc2 so i think i will be selling that and getting link. Seems like the e85 tune might be best for what im looking for.

You can still make good power on pump gas those numbers I posted for him where low he had alot stuff wrong with the car and still made those good number of 350whp. So if e85 is around you then do it, if not you will still see good horsepower numbers on the 20g. I would get ecmlink lite or full depends if you can toss another $100 for it. I would just look on classifieds for injectors 880cc-1000cc for decent price and you will be set. Safc only tricks the ecu signal and your timing is stock and maybe cause engine knock and not know whats really going on with your car you dont wanna blow it up. Yes even I and alot people ran an safc, but more less getting you save your money and not make same mistake. There is just not enough power to be made with a afc. So do work get that money and do it the right way then you will be done and happy with a fast good car. Also pm my1gdsm for great remote tune if you need one.:thumb:

1. All respecting gauges are a must(a/f gauge preff. a wideband)
2. A.F.P.R
3. Boost controller
4. Re-wire kit for the 255 is recomended
5. Although link would be best the safc2 will be fine for 650's (My old car went 11.9 with 660's and afc neo, of cource I had a few more parts than you and bigger turbo)
6. You are ganna have to look into clutches as well

i saw there is a set of PTE 1200cc injectors in the classifieds, will those work for an e85 tune? i am already trying to sell the safc2. Ordered a few gaskets and walbro yesterday. I will do the rewire as well. Trying to make a dent in the parts i need to achieve this goal so if im forgetting anything please let me know! i am learning what i need and whats best as i go here
