Well, to tell ya the truth i had the best luck with the "tri-metal" ACL's in the yellow box. I brought my machinist a few sets of bearings because the first set of clevite's i brought him were putting clearances in the .003 range and he wanted them at .0025. I found a set of ACL tri-metals at another machinist's shop and picked those up and the clearances were in spec using them. (also they are much better than clevites according to most peolple you talk to but i don't know the real difference)

As for the ACL aluglide bearings i've read and been told that they are just meant as an OEM replacement and are not as duarable as the tri-metal, but then again before we had all this aftermarket support people went really fast (and still do ) on OEM mitsubishi bearings

i'm not sure of your goals but i told my machinist i wanted to have an engine capable of 600 HP that was daily driven and held in high rpm's like a marine engine or motorcycle. I'm sure if the bearings weren't up to it he would have said something to me, as he's super picky about his work (and that's whu i won't take my parts anywhere else)
 
Ok thanks. For the future im also going to do the whole head. New cams, valves, valve springs (everything). Should I go with dual valve springs or just the regular ones ?
 
From all the reading i've done i'd say go with single beehive springs. I bought the BC units with retainers and have bee happy with them and they have done well even at the occasional accidental 9000RPM over rev when i lose traction. But, they supposedly aren't good enough to really be ran to that RPM range on under normal loaded pull, or at least that's the general consensus among those who've tried them and moved on to better ones in search of the perfect setup.

The popular and or best springs out there are said to be the kiggly beehives, or a set of the EVO OEM ones which are also beehive style, both are supposed to be excellent choices, although i'm not sure what years/generation EVO's they come out of off the top of my head but if you search on here you'll find out and get plenty more info to boost.

A tip on searching.. use the advancved search to narrow down your finds, this way you get 3-4 pages of results instead of 15-20 (i spend hours and hours reading through threads at least every other day. I learn a lot and it's better than annoying people buy posting soemthing that's been asked a thousand times already, that way when you have something you really need help on people are more likely to pop into your thread instead of thinking "not this troll asking about his NAWZZZ AGAIN!" LOL

Laugh out loud ! Nah your good im still trying to get used to the search. I kinda wish it was like google and it would kinda narrow its self down. I kinda feel like im doin stuff wrong when I search on here. No disrespect to dsm tuners because this is now my favirote website but you guys search makes me want to give up sometimes in searching all together.
 
as far as the EVI springs< I am not sold... if you run the math they just do not add up.

I was in another thread and the guy was asking about them they set up shorter, and do not make as much pressure as the stock 4g springs

1.560 = 65lbs

these SBI springs are OE Replacemnets

so if you look at the evo springs

1.560 installed height 65 lbs

the SBI

1.575 installed height is 66 lbs

so I was wrong ealier you have 1 less lb on the seat, but the EVo springs install .015 tighter

also the EVO had to be compressed .450 to get a 154lb open pressure or 1.120

the SBI springs have an open pressure of 160lbs @ 1.240 or .120 taller than the EVO

I will say the evo does have a much lighter retainer tho.





If your budget allows the Kiggley's or ferrea beehives would be about the last set of springs you would need. but both of those are over kill for 95% of the cams out there.

Now that I think of it, if the Evo spring/retainers are so good.... why are the Evo guys pulling them off and getting rid of them?
