MBC = manual boost controller (Turbo XS)
BCS = Boost control solenoid

About a decade ago, I did a bunch of mods to my car. Some of them may have been ill-informed, but all of them were done when I didn't have much money.

I bought an Injen intake from a guy recently for dirt cheap. Cleaned it and it's ready for install.

I have a Stock turbo; stock IC; stock computer.

I've got upper and lower intercooler pipes, Greddy Type S BOV, K&N filtercharger, Manual boost controller, Thermal R&D catback,

I noticed the Injen intake has an extra nipple. But I just saw that my stock snorkel used to have the nipple, but it looks like it broke off so I sealed it off the hole permanently with some black sealant goop, etc.

It also looks like I had removed the BCS completely.

So how should I hook up the Injen intake I now have a shit-load of money but wasn't looking into investing in this car anymore. I could theoretically buy a new BCS and hook it back up (if I find instructions). Or I could take the easy way out and cap off the Injen's 3rd nipple, so the Injen intake would be installed just like my snorkel was.

What do you think?

Just cap it off if you already have a mbc. If you removed the bcs completely you should have a cel since it has an electrical plug on it. On the injen don't put black goop on it I case it comes lose and the turbo sucks it up. Get the rubber caps you can buy at the parts stores and zip tie it on so its snug.

Yeah thanks. I'm thinking the same thing.

I found some things under my battery tray and not sure what they are but the snorkel goes to them.

Note that most everything had been relocated at some point so it's probably not where you'd normally see them:

stock snorkel. IIRC small nipple broke off and so I plugged it up somehow

I don't know what these 2 things are it looks like one line from snorkel feeds into. Battery is in the way so I can't easily get good photos.

What is this circular thing one line from snorkel feeds to? Battery is in the way so I can't easily get good photos.

With proper computer code a BCS is awesome. The stock DSM computer code really only tries to control the boost when there is knock.

I believe that extra nipple is to hook up the bleed for the boost control solenoid. It bleeds metered air off to increase the amount of boost. If that goes to atmospheric it will run rich. So you vent it back behind the MAF and it has no problem.

Thanks for the help, fellas.

I got the intake pipe installed; used a rubber cap to block off the nipple.

It doesn't really fit well because the pipe goes up too high. Weird. Maybe because I have the stock turbo? I have the stock intercooler and my upper intercooler pipe runs past the air filter too. It's totally in the way of the huge K&N filter. So the filter sits an inch or two higher, but it still clears the hood after I raised my rubber hood adjusters a tiny amount.

Even if we are capping off the nipple on the intake and bypassing the stock bcs, do we still leave the stock bcs plugged in or is it ok to leave it unplugged?

I hate to bump an old thread.

Good question.

Many years ago I read not to use the BCS, for some reason. But recently read to use the BCS (in setups like mine) as it's helpful.

I don't know either.
