Still new here. I bought my 97 GST Automatic with no engine for $700, 120,000 miles. Completly stock untouched.

I recently bought a built engine containing a few goodies such as BC 280 Cams and adjustable cam gears.

I have access to a 95 eprom ecu that has not been touched. Am I going to need it to run those 280 cams?

Also, someone told me trying to run those cams with an automatic trans is going to cause a problem? Can someone elaborate on that?

This is just going to be a exceptionally fun daily driver on 15psi. I just want to run those cams because A: They sound awesome and B: They came in the motor! I am willing to deal with minor drivability issues. Heck I drove around a 87 Conquest runing megasquirt and a shotty tune for a year.

You'll be letting more air into the engine, its good to be able to tell the ecu that youre doing that otherwise youll run lean. ECMlink is the ultimate way to go but you would be fine with SAFC and bigger injectors.

Those cams not being degreed in on a stock car won't be fun. You will most likely lose power. In addition, they require upgraded springs and retainers. Purposely making your car run like crap for a sound is dumb. Sell them and buy something to start the car off with. Like a 14b..

The issue lays in the stall speed of the torque converter if you run the BC280 cams

The converter will want to lock up before the cams are in there power band

since the engine is out, get the proper stall converter and install it with the engine.

This is the simple version. I am sure there is more that can be explined to you

Good luck even running 15psi with cams without hitting fuel cut. . .

It just seems like a waste running untuned. Get a chip or something.

Please don't tell us you're going to be running the stock T25 hair-dryer turbo too?

+1

your launch won't be good unless you're running higher than stock compression to get you a little more off-boost torque. You'll probably be stuck at 2000-2200rpms at best trying to brake boost.

Well I guess I should have mentioned that I also have 650 injectors on hand.

Also the engine contains: Eagle Crank, Eagle Rods, Wiseco 9.0:1 pistons, titanium valve components, 14b turbo, ARP's all the way around, 1G intake and TB.

Right now, I have a set of stock cams in it. Gonna try running it on the stock 97 ECU like that. If she dont run too well then I will go at it with some kind of tune. I hate tuning though, so I will probably get someone or a shop to do that for me.

But, a nice daily driver running on 280 Cams, the 650 injectors, T3/T4, and at least 20psi is my goal. Everything but the tuning knowledge and will power is on hand.

I ran my BC288's on the stock injectors and tune for a while, untill I got the money for my openport 2.0 and 850 injectors. This was a M/T though. There was a noticable drop in the low end power.

You can't just chuck bigger injectors in without doing something to the ECU.

Well duh. Hence the tunning I was talking about and EProm or I could even get ahold of a Flashable ECU. I have easy access to both.

Like I said, I have all this stuff laying around, if it ain't gonna work, I can just sell it and buy something that will. If I was able to post my cams and t3/t4 turbo in the classifieds, I would.

So its a 6bolt? or just the head?

What ecu are you running?
Id get link if I was you.

ROFL T3/T4 turbos are the best.

Go with DSMLink and the 95 EPROM ECU. It's worlds easier than messing with flashing an ECU. I wouldn't advise running the 280's without tuning and definitely look into what valvetrain upgrades are needed.
