ok.. i just got these cams installed. my vac is at 10-11hg, i throw p300 sometimes, idle at 720-750. failed smog at idle due to high HC ave 100/ meas 118. is this normal?

they used to run 272/264 back in the day, so in case you did get it mixed up its fine.

its 264/272 i did put it on myself. just typed it backwards. but yes my idle is low. ill have to set it higher then. i was hoping to pass smog. im gonna try to run 2 ounce acetone to see if i can reduce my hc at idle.. acetone is suppose to reduce emissions by 60%. if not ill have to pay 2bills to get it to pass.

Damn $200?! There has to be another side shop you can go to but if not, that's really sucks.

Your cams need degreed. When they are properly degreed you should have a little more vacuum and the idle overlap won't be so aggressive that it's causing misfire codes.

Talondave is running BC288's in his 1G, properly degreed when the engine was built, and his car literally idles like it has stock cams.

Lol I dont know why some one would do that seems kinda ass backwards.:hmm:
This is the only way Delta will sell their 264/272 regrind combo. It does seem backwards from traditional manufacturers, but Delta insists it gives great results claiming the longer duration is better on the exhaust cam because the turbo is what adds the backpressure.

I have the Delta regrind cams in the HKS profile, and I have the 264 intake cam and the 272 exhaust cam. I think you misread the previous post Justin. He was saying it seemed backwards that someone would run the 272 as the intake cam which does seem funny.

I think he is more concerned about getting his car to pass smog with the cams, I had my HKS 272/272 cams in and had them tuned to idle like stock etc and they still failed smog because in CA they check your factory idle speed and timing and when all that is normal with the cams in the idle is way too lopey and they can tell. Trust me, I tried getting around it..

pshhhhh... little boy:D speak too soon. just passed with 264/272 combo.. heres the secret for anyone who wants to pass..

Get guarantee to pass (g2p) formula, follow the instructions.. but when you fill up add acetone 2.5oz to 5 gallon gas. go smog youll pass emissions. mines was lower by 70% idk do the math. here are my readings

failed
no additives
hc at idle
max-100 / measured 118

passed
g2p & acetone mix
hc at idle
max-100 / measured 31

yeehaaaaw... wooo hooooo.. mofo smog tech was like damn wtf u do your car?? it burns like a brand new car.

also fyi when acetone is added it will run a little rough. thats if you pay close attention to your engine like i do.

I passed the sniffer with crower 272's and no cat on e85, failed visual. Figures the one time they actually look under my car i don't have a cat. Went back a few days later with a magnaflow high flow cat, passed again. Funny thing is, you guessed it, they didn't look under the car, arghhhh.
