basic mods for a bigger turbo

Ok i know putting on a bigger turbo is a lot of work. but i've been doing a lot of research on it but I'm not very good with cars and still learning a lot.

I was thinking of either considering a 20g or 50 trim. I'm leaning more towards the 20g but before i buy it what are basic mods i need to do to install it.

Go to the tech guide and follow the upgrade path. It will show you what you should do before slapping on a larger turbo.

First get all your maintenance done before anything esle. Then upgrade your fuel system (injectors, fuel pump, fpr), and a tuning device.

What are your goals for the car? Deciding this will help us help you make a decision on what turbo you want to upgrade to.

As for supporting mods, you should get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, bigger injectors, fuel pump (Evo 8, Supra TT, Walbro 255 etc.), and something to log and tune with.

Ok good. Just in case make sure you have also changed your fuel filter as well if you haven't done so and you'll be set to go. Do a quick boost leak test if you can as well.

well i want to make 12s to 11s. but still a daily driver if possible.

Ya i would start out with a smaller turbo then upgrade. Get used to the tuning devices you use to compensate for the bigger injectors and airflow. Get used to reading the datalogs and know what everything means. Ya you can go big and learn with that as well... I started off with a 16g and im starting to learn how to tune and this summer will be a hx35 +1 for that turbo....

-Injectors
-tunning device/AFC, EVC, LINK, etc./
-FMIC
-If you have the money and time, just replace the head studs/ with the head on thr motor/.

Honestly, I would suggest an Evo 3 16G for you now. They're really fun street turbos and can make good power and lay down good times. With the right supporting mods they can get you into 11s. Not to mention they're relatively inexpensive.

All of your questions have been answered You just need to seek the answers young grasshopper... Seriously though, check the FAQ's and VFAQ's because most of your questions are on the lists. Everything from the turbo to the BLT is covered. I know the rule about "search," and I would give you all the links, but it would take me as long as it would take you to find them. They are very easily accessible.

And as for the mods? Since you said you "aren't very good with cars" and "am learning", I personally would suggest getting a datalogger FIRST. IT IS CHEAPER THAN YOU THINK!!! A good cable will cost you around 30 bucks and you can run mmcd on your laptop with proper software. That way you can begin to get a handle on what your car is "seeing" and doing. It is also a good idea to have a handle on internal combustion and forced aspiration theory before going any further. A datalogger will let you see how different changes create different results (and keep you from nuking your engine from poor planning!) After that, follow the upgrade paths, from opening up the BCS and so on and so forth... When you get through all the first mods, I honestly think you will love how your car is running. These cars can do alot in relatively stock form.

Also, remember it is much easier to tune a mild modification than something crazy. Work in steps unless you have the money to have a shop do it all at once.
