base tune for my car?

Alright guys so I am a noob to tuning....I have a 99 with reflashed ecu and I am using evoscan and ECUflash.


I ordered all this from dsmchips.com and was giving a base tune so I could just drop it in and go.

For the base tune, you answer questions about your setup.

this includes what:

piston compression
fuel pressure
Maf
injectors

So I wanna know how I can get a base tune for my new setup until I can afford to go to the dyno.

now with my build I have 9:1 pistons instead of 8.5:1


Basically if I answered those questions on dsmchips about my new setup, what would be changed from my old setup?

So your question is how to get a base tune?

You go and take some logs (idle, cruise, 3rd gear WOT pull from about 2k to redline). Then you evaluate the data in the logs and make adjustments to airflow, fuel, and timing. You'll want to make sure to have your wideband outputting a signal to the ECU so you can log that value.

We can't really give you a 'base tune' for you car, as we have nothing to base the info off of.

That is what I thought, but how did Dsmchips do it when all I did was give them answers to questions. I just traded my ecu in for the new one.

They burned you a custom EPROM chip with some basic settings based on those questions. They adjust a few values in the code of that chip.

But it's not going to be close to being a good tune, which is why you need to adjust it further using ECUflash.

yeah I just don't want to knock and stuff while I break in the car. I just want the piston rings and everything to be okay.

Could I just take it to a dyno when it is done and they can tune and break in the car?

All depends on what break in method you choose for your car (I'm guessing you have a new/freshly rebuilt engine in your car or one is going in). Please do some searching if you're looking for more info on this as there is plenty on here.

As long as you keep the boost low (I'd suggest hooking the wastegate up to your boost source, no MBC in line) you'll be fine. There should be no knocking as long as you're just driving it and not beating on it.

My external wasegate is 1 bar on my holset h1c.
Is that too much?

Even if it is, you can't really do much about it other than having the wastegate open all the time. It should be fine.

You could, but 1 bar (14.5 psi) on that turbo will be hardly anything.

I've heard good things about that method, so good luck with the break in.
