Base timing question

Is there any other way to check the base timing without the lower timing belt cover on ? My cover was all messed up so I took it off. I have a timing gun and know how to use it I just wanted to know if there was any other way to check it. Someone said they used a pocket logger. But if your camshaft position sensor was moved then your loggers base timing setting and output for regular driving output would then be incorrect right?

btw the car is a 90 eclipse fwd gs -t

The output displayed on a logger is based on the ECUs assumption of a correct *5 base timing.

Only way to do it right is get a good cover on and put the timing gun on it.

Thanks I didnt think there was any other way but it wasent shure. I'll have to order a new one. Thank you
