base model motor durability

right now im looking at getting a base mode 93 (gas milage car for the time being)

the car itself is in like perfect shape other than a few chips in the paint.. interior is perfect


im wondering how long the motors last on these cars if driven normaly... also the car makes a wine noise.. sorta sounds like a supercharger.. is that normal for the 1.8's? (it sorta sounds like its coming from the alternator but not 100% sure)

What kinda miles are you talking about? Ive never really thought of getting a DSM for its reliability, but its done although i dont think a eclipse is known for its longevity, the 2gen is known for its lifespan..but not in a good way. It mostly comes down to how its been treated and stuff, my friend had a 94 nonturbo eclipse he got it with 90k and he took it well above 100k, might have been close to 200k, before he wrecked it. But i dont really know just stickin my 2 cents in there.

hopeing to get around 24 city (ive heard of upto 26 but i doubt i would get that good) and maybe 30-31higwhay

right now im gettin about 12-17.. so anything is alot better (and what im driving now only runs on 93oct gas.. so $1.80/gal right now (about $30 a week)

it was eather 131k or 137k.. didnt look that close at the odometer ..


whats the whine noise it makes when u rev it?

also is the stock shifter in these cars does it feel like a shortthrow shifter does in other cars?.. because it has a firm feeling when u put it in gear (sorta like a rwd stick car where it clicks into gear.. and i dont think its stock (shifter rod is poshished or chrome.. couldnt see it that good

i have a 91 gs with 220,000 miles on it and still runs great, reliable and good gas milage, wish my gsx had that... o well

i ended up not gettin that car i went to look at.. the rotors were warped.. and it wasnt worth the $2000 which was the least the guy wanted for the car
