Driving home normal nothing out of the ordinary and a banging noise starts, very loud sounds like something smacking together. I pulled over and shut the car off. When I start the car and I have the clutch pushed in it just makes the normal chattering it always made but when I let the clutch back out even in neutral I hear this loud banging. When I would try to let it back in gear it would move but not smooth and make that loud banging noise and I could smell burning clutch.
The car has a twin disc clutch in it. I figured the street driving finally killed it from all the letting it in slow. Got home dropped the tranny and pulled the clutch and flywheel. The clutch and flywheel didnt seem to have anything missing that would make it bang around. Other then alot of dust and being worn everything was there and the TOB looked fine. On the back of the flywheel it looked like it had been rubbing on something because you could see a ring rubbed into it. I mounted the flywheel back on and could not find anything at all that it could have been hitting. Im going back to a normal flywheel and 2900 but Im not sure what this noise is and I dont want to put it all back together and still have it. I really figured on it being the clutch but any other ideas to check would be great. Thanks
