Theres a tool you can rent at auto zone...Its call a ball joint remover...looks like a 2 pronged fork but super heavy duty...You have to wedge it between the ball joint and the arm and hammer it in then it will pop out after a few good whacks. Goodluck.

There a pic of it in my "tutorial" haha here ya go. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214096

The exact name is the "2 prong pickle puller." ROFL
I am not kidding. Thats what Pep Boy's called it.

If its just the stud that is stuck in, its probably rust thats holding it. Try taking a hammer and a block of wood and giving it a couple of whacks. CAREFULLY.

I am guessing that you are talking about the stud. But I really don't know what that picture means.

I think I know what you mean, and you know you will have to have the ball joint pressed out at a shop with a press. Its not going to just comes right out. GoodLuck.

First you have to pull the little boot off and clean up the ball joint a bit. There should be a large c-clip that holds the bal joint to the lower arm. That needs to be taken off and SAVED and well as not destroyed. Once you get that off you then have to press the old ball joint out and the new ball joint in.

Yes, the "pickle fork" is for separating the appropriate ball-joint arm from the knuckle. Once you have the upper control arm free, you will have to press out the ball-joint. Then press in the new one.

edit: forgot about the "c" clip...good memory.

edit: removed incorrect information.

This very inccorect. If you are not sure how things work then do not give advice on how to fix them.

The ball joint is not only pressed in, IE will not come out with a hammer, but it has a clip that needs to be removed as well.

Sorry, I thought he was talking about seperating the upper control arm from the other arm. But I will read more carefully next time.

no the lowers were replaced when recalled, but how do I go about removing this C-clip, i have located it, and woudl like to remove it

There seems to be some confusion that we need to clear up.

1. Is this a 1G or a 2g. The thread says 1G specific, but you have a 2G.

2. What ball joint are you talking about? On 1G's there is only a lower ball joint in the front. However, there are tie rod ends both inner and outer.

3. Is this the front or the rear we are talking about?

For the clip that was on mine, I just used a small screwdriver and a hammer and got up underneath it and went all around it. To actually get mine out, I used something to put under the control arm that had an opening just large enough for the ball joint to fall through and wedged it under there so the control arm was up against it and it wouldn't move. Then I just hit it with a hammer a few times. Not sure if you'll be able to do something similar with yours as it's the upper, and a 2g though.

This incorrect as well.

Come on guys.

The dealer will only sell the lower arm "assmebly" not just the ball joint, however, many automotive stores will the ball joint seperatly.

The wrong information I posted was based on this thread I started 7-20:
http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234518
where I curbed my car I was told by the dealer and 2 well known big chain auto parts stores in which I was told by 1 that I could order the upper, but all 3 said that I had to buy complete assemblies for the 2 lowers.

After this reply and further searching, I went to a smaller "mom & pop" franchise and in fact was able to order all 3 ball joints if required.

Thanks for correcting my mistake as the only arm I really needed to replace (in my case) was the LCA (curved piece) and I am replacing the other 2 ball-joints for "piece of mind", plus a couple of other items in that corner.
