Balance Shaft Belt Question .

Hey changing the timing belt, and was wondering if you could just take off the balance shaft belt? Just leave the shaft in. Would it have the same effect ? Any comments greatly appreciated.

Is that true? Why go through all the trouble of removing the shafts if you can just take the belt off?

well...in my case, a very very rare case, it caused my balance shaft bearing to fail, but it was only because it was already going, which realy ####ed me. it vibrates lot more with just one bs spinning but its liveable. i know a lot of ppl that just run with no bs belt. if u were planning on pullin the motor id say just remove them, but its a royal bi*** when its still in the car.

I've always wondered what would happen if you pulled the Front Belt & then intentionally mis-timed the Rear Balance Shaft 90 degrees out - splitting the difference.

So it still gives you the performance as if you were to take them out ?

Anyone Know if you just take off the b-shaft belts if it will improve performance ?

You only have ONE balance shaft belt. The other shaft is driven by the timing belt so you can only remove one. You can remove the front belt but you may get a wicked vibration with only the rear shaft spinning. it may free up a miniscule amount of power but not so you'd notice.
