Took my car out the other day and revved it up a little hit around 6.8k - 7k most when i messed around a little driving then it shifted nothing new, but odd noise started and sounds like crap. Very loud especially if under the car when it starts and noticed when you go to crank it, it sounds like grinding / scratching bad. Not running it to prevent further damage, but anyone else think this should just be the starter? Flywheel looks ok and I know the torque converter is ok because I loc tite the bolts.

Now hold on I need a clarification are you saying you did a pull to 7k and then shifted and now whenever you start the car it will make grinding noises?

Cars an auto, not the first time I've done it, but the thing is this starter was a make shift, took the solenoid off of one that didn't work and put it on one with a good motor / gear.

Sounds like possible damage with the Torque Converter. I would suggest making sure the 4 torque converter are tight and still there. The starter does nothing when the car is running.

How does it shift? Any slipping?

It's fine shifting, but see my old starter (a manual starter was put in by accident 2 -3 years ago, now this one has been in since then which is actually for an auto) made a very bad noise like this one. Did notice though that it did seem to slip completely (which is why i figured something didn't grab) but hit the gas again and it was fine no more slipping or anything, and as I stated I loc tite all the bolts on the torque converter because it came loose once on me. Unless it is just completely messed up now. Does make the sound trying to crank it over as well.

Because of hearing this loud / grinding like sound when even trying to crank all I can think of is something happened to the starter or the Torque converter is on its way out.

Just FYI that it doesn't have no massive power loss just sounds really f'n bad, which is why its parked and my only car..

If you used the wrong started for a while, you probably boogered up the ring teeth on the torque converter. You will have to replace it as the gear is not replaceable.

take out starter and inspect teeth. my bendix had play in it and malso grinded when starting. take it out and loook at it

This starter has been in for 2 years, figured it wasn't going to last forever but oh well. I'll have to take it out tomorrow.

The m/t starter wasn't in very long because it crapped quick which was before I threw this starter in and kinda sounds the same which is why I was thinking it was the starter.

Like I said this was a make shift starter, m/t solenoid off and threw it on a a/t starter motor and it worked.

Teeth on the torque converter / flywheel look good, just sounds horrible even cranking and very bad when running, maybe the gear the teeth are on is loose / shot.

Somehow the bolts came loose, which was making this noise to believe it was the starter..
I loc tite'd them once this time used thread locker.
