I just bought a 96 Talon. The owner told me when he hits a hard bump the car will start to go into a random misfire mode. Only stops if you hit another hard bump. I went to go pick it up the other day and it was in the "limp mode".."random misfire" mode. I felt the header and one pipe was barely hot after a few minutes of running. I'm thinking that cylinder isn't firing correctly. Could this be a bad coil pack? Maybe a bad transistor? Weird thing is when we went to jump it off his truck, it would start running, but would die once we unconnected the jumper cables. I don't know if this could be the same problem or just a bad alt?

Oh yeah I forgot to add.. the car when misfiring will idle very very low. When put on a scanner it only shows "random misfire". Fuel pressure all looks good. I don't think its a bad fuel injector unless it does not show that on the scanner??

Yeah it def. needs to be charged, but... when hooked up to the other vehicle.. it was showing to have perfect volts and everything to the car on the battery meter in the car. It still misfired.

If it was a bad coil there would be 2 cold cylinders. (wasted spark and all) I would tend to look at injectors try switching the injectors around and see if the cold cylinder moves with it. As far as car dying when you unhooked jumper cables 2 things come to mind 1) battery was very dead or bad 2) alt. is bad did you check voltage at battery car off and car running? This could also cause the bad misfire.

Put a brand new battery in it and it runs perfect. I believe the alt. is bad on the car. Will know tomorrow when I bring it to autozone for a test.
