Oh my god... I was on my way to the mechanic today to have my new timing belt and balance shaft belt eliminator put on, and my car died. I tried starting it and it wouldnt fire. I walked home and called my mechanic to tow it to his shop. Well, I just got a call from him with the news. Turns out the exhaust valve spring on cylinder 3 was defective and is broke in pieces and the valve has somehow broken the sparkplug. He says the timing is ok but he hasnt pulled the head to see if there is any other damage. He suggested I contact the company I bought the head from which is "Clearwater Cylinder Heads" for warranty reasons. I gave them a call and they told me their warranty only covers the head and they will not pay for damages or labor caused from their defective parts. I dont want to send the head back and wait a month to get it back. They should pay for shipping, parts, and labor costs.
Sorry for crying to you, I am just really upset right now.

Most any company is goin to tell you that just b/c they don't want to have to pay extra money for something that is their fault. Just keep annoying them and threaten to take them to court and most likely they will pay. If you have any friends that are lawyers that could draw up some papers that would be good also.

yeah, i bought a head from cylinder heads international, and after like 10 tried of trying to get the thing started, it just wouldnt run right, so i sent it back and they gave me a full refund

my head was 400 plus shipping, and i wouldnt worry so much, im sure it was just a bad part from the manufacturer, not clearwater themselves, but if they are giving that guy a hard time about his head, i dont know, i guess i would be worried too

Here's a thought

No matter what we buy, things can and do break. It's a given.

That's why we have warranties. Let's see how the company handles the warranty. In this case, patience is a virtue. Let them sort it out and see what they come up with as far as what they are paying for.

One other thing. If you were selling a head and someone who you had no idea of their skills or capabilities were installing it suddenly called you and said something was broke, I wonder what your response would be?

While you may be honest and exact in your situation, they have to sort things out as they deal with unscrupulous people every day.

If they are good people, they will try to work with you. Some places cover labor and parts. Some only parts. Look at your agreement to see what you purchased.

I deal with this every day as a professional. I also deal with the same people over and over again. It takes time to build trust. Trust is earned not given.

Lastly. If it was installed by an "amateur" there may be doubts as to the accuracy of the install.
I read a lot of posts here and some people do seem to make the same mistake over and over.

Hopefully you will be alright

Good Luck

Im not saying ClearWater sells bad heads, Im just saying the valve spring was defective. When it broke it cause further damage to my engine. And Clearwater says there warrantys only covers replacements of their heads. Well it does no good for them to replace my head when their head caused further damage on my car that I cant afford to fix. I think they need to have better guarantee and pay for the labor and parts to get it back on the road, because it was their defective part that caused the damage. If they refuse to help or refund my money means how cyliner #3 and piston needs some work done, I will dispute with paypal and ebay. I honestly think they are a great company, s#@! happens. Just cover the s#@! when it does.
I will let you all know how this turns out.

BTW: Know of any companys selling fully built 4g63t engines? Dont have to be high performance.
Thanks,
Ryan

Here comes some pics of the damage.. More to come

Hey, I have a question, when you got your head from clearwater did the head come with the sutds such as like the exhaust manifold studs and the two intake manifold studs, the thermostat housing studs, and the camshaft sensor studs?
I got my head and it disdn't come with any of those studs.
What's up with that.
