Bad Idle and Soot?

Alright, totally new to the 420A. Bought a 95 GS for lil of nothing. Alright, its been cold here for a couple of weeks. I went outside to crank the car, and all hell broke lose. It cranks just fine, but has an almost dying idle, but after 2 mins, it stops. But, when i hit my gas, gas fumes come out the exhaust and its covered in black soot(running rich, yes, i did check and i can confirm its gas, not oil or antifreeze. Any ideas?

One more problem: Sometimes, it'll rev up to 3500 rpms by itself. Never seen that s**t before (Note: car had been sitting for 2 months, and driven only once with some new gas) Checked the oil, no leaks around the valve cover, and it wasnt runny.

check to see if your idle air control valve is working properly.

I have had the same problem, when starting my car would have a trouble starting sometimes. And when i go to take off my car will rev up round 2500 rpms. I dont know if your car has ever stalled out when you slowed down but mine stalled out and had trouble starting back up, i brought it to a shop and they messed around with the idle air control and ever since then i have not had the problem again
