I am still getting some pretty bad gas mileage.

I am only getting about 19.7 mpg with mostly city driving shifting at 4k.
I have already replaced my front O2 sensor and am looking to replace the fuel filter.

I have a 99gst with about 55k miles on it. Should my fuel filter already be bad?

What else should I check or change? I have NKG plugs and Accel wires are on the way.

Thanks,
Nathan

Cold weather has a big ass affect on gas mileage. Winter gas has a big ass affect on gas mileage. The best way to find out gas mileage is to go to the pump fill it until it clicks then reset the trip, drive around untill the tank is 1/4 left, then fill it up untill it stops. Divide mileage by gallons of gas = milage. I just go 17.02 mile to the gallon on my last fill. I do this to keep a track of how many MPG I use. I've tried everything. I hate the people that claim they get 25-30 MPG. :p I can't figure it out. I just think they don't add like I do or they just do all Highway miles with no boost.

I live in Southern California so winter doesn't effect me here. The brakes have been replaced and checked twice so those aren't it. I'm replacing the exhaust manifold anyway so while I'm in the engine I'm going to take a serious look at my fuel system, namely the fuel filter. Previous owner says it was replaced, but I think it wasn't.

I drive a 95 GSX and get only 200 miles a full tank. 230-240 if i'm lucky. Whats the best way to save my car from guzzling all those gas? Should i have a tune up? change spark plug, wires, etc.? My o2 censor is working perfectly fine, so i dont think its that. I appreciate for all the answers. My friend has a 20G on his eclipse and gets 300-350 miles a full tank. Dont ask me how he does it, but i'm trying to find out. He's in the navy so i never see him to get in contact. Will a fuel injector cleaner do anything?? Thanks.

hey son is that a pic of your gsx? that is a sweet looking ride. im surprised you re asking such a question. yeah, thats normal. if you shift at 3 grand every time, and go lightly on the pedal (not forcing it to three grand) you can get more than 250, but as soon as you romp on the gas, you can say goodbye to many many miles worth of that highpriced premium octane.

I was about to ask this question too...normally 200-210 miles after a fill up and the light comes on then I'll end up pushing it another 20 miles...I thought I was the only one getting horible gas mileage. I'd say 50% of my driving is on highway where I do 80 and the only times I really step on it is getting on the highway...where I step on it all the way through 2nd and up to about 90mph in 3rd then I slow down. and around the city I only step on it sometimes. But also my plug wires are SOAKED with oil cause my valve cover cracked when replacing the gasket...my dad did it so he bought me a new powdercoated one off ebay. just got it and put it on today...I think my plug wires probably have something to do with it cause the rubber feels sticky and greasy with the oil wiped off and there are bulges in the insulation

That's his car after I photoshoped it. I take it as a compliment that you like it and cant tell it ps'ed.

But davidle, if you don't hit boost it should help gas milage.

I can tell it's photoshopped too, but I did it. The prob with it is I saved it at too high a quality and need to reduce the amount of image info present in that part. An there is actually a lot more done than just the hood, but the hood is the most obvious part.

and this might work a little better for a sig pic if you like it, davidle

LOL, u guys are hilarious. Boo-ya is such a funny word. I havent heard that in years. Anyways, yeah my pic is p.s'ed. It looks hella tight tho, thanks to Inferiorwang here. He's pro at this. My car is how it looks in my gallery. BUT it will look like the p.s'ed picture as soon as I have the $$$$.

That sucks to hear that all of us have such sh*tty gas mileage. BUT look on the bright side. It's a turbo, so we are asking for it, i guess. Now that I hear answers from u all, i dont feel like my car is the only one out there with this problem.

Hey InferiorWang, I like that picture of the p.s'ed u just did for a sig. Can u change the name David Le, make the name seperately? thanks man.

I get 187 per tank. But I just started keeping track of the milage. So I get just over 15 mpg. I think I need to check the O2 sensor or the feul filter since I changed plugs, wires, air filter, etc.

I get around 350-390 to a tank before the gas warning indicator pops up. I have 118,000 miles on my motor by the way. I used to get 200 to a full tank but since then I changed several things out which helped me gain more miles to a gallon.
- Fuel filter
- Spark plugs
- Spark plug wires
- Run some fuel injector cleaner fluid everytime you change your oil
Hope that helps.

could u tell me what kind of spark plugs, spark plug wires, and oil filter you use. NGK's??? Thanks.

my huffy gets about 4 miles to the 20oz bottle of water.

and i will work on ur pic later davidle, i'm about to go play racquetball and then go to my stupid cs lab.
