Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum. A few years ago I bought a 1992 Eclipse GS that was practically headed for the scrapyard. Since then, it has been completely restored.

The engine was recently rebuilt because all of the oil control rings had seized in every cylinder. I had wanted to tear the engine down anyway because it had been showing some strange symptoms. First of all, it suddenly refused to start one day, which was eventually fixed by replacing the ECU.

A few months later, the idle started fluctuating and the engine would misfire when cold. Then the vacuum ports broke off my MD103867 part. I couldn't find a replacement, so I repaired it with adhesive. As it turned out, the vacuum hoses weren't connected correctly either.

That may have solved part of the idle issue. The idle now fluctuates between 900 and 1300 RPM, but when the engine is warm and I come to a stop at a stop sign, the car stalls and loses idle completely.

The vacuum system seems to be working properly, so I'm wondering if the EGR valve could be the problem. I can't really think of anything else at this point. Could disabling or blocking off the EGR solve this issue?

The engine still misfires when it's cold as well.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards from Hungary.

Idle issues are often one of these:
Vacuum leaks
BISS leaking or improperly adjusted
ISC/IAC not working - could be the ISC, ECU, or wiring. Pull it off and see if the pintle moves in/out when you turn on the ignition.
FIAV is another common failure - common fixes are a bypass plate, or like I did, close the passages with the adjustment "knob" under the freeze plug.
I'm sure I forgot a few, but this is a start.

EGR can be easily blocked off with a piece of sheet metal steel sandwiched with the gasket. I used a piece of paint thinner can. Vacuum lines can then be removed and capped.

Misfire could be spark plugs and wires.
