1G Bad ECU?

Every once in a while when I try to start my car The gauges and idiot lights go nuts and it will not start. I play with the key for a while and then it starts like normal. WTF is the deal? Also it will throw a TPS code and a IAT code every once in a while even though both sensors are fine.

How do you know if the ECU is bad? What goes wrong and how do you fix it?

well, if it is the ECU, which im not promising heres how to check it, and its easy to check so i would check it out anyway if you've never done it before, i have heard of those same symptoms comming from a bad ecu...

what you want to do is take off your inner kick panels and remove the ecu its behind your radio, and theres 3 10mm bolts you have to take out and 3 connectors. open it up (4 screws) and look for anything that isnt normal.

thats just my oppinion...

NOTE - if anything is wrong with the ecu ... and its not the capacitors, something failed to make it go bad. get it fixed before you replace it.... if you need any further help just post ... or msg me on msn [email protected] or AIM - xbrandon2001x

It also does the rapid clicking noise coming from under the dash when the gauges are going nuts and it will not start. Luckily it hasn't done it on the highway yet but, I have to take it on a 60 min drive tomarrow so hopfully it wont give a problem. What does it look like inside the ecu if somthing is wrong?

What would make the ecu go bad? What should I check while I have it apart?

Ya, after a day of hell today I'm 99.9% shure it is the ecu. It will not start and the only way I made it start was by poppin the clutch. The battery has no juice no matter how much you try and charge it and it does the rapid clicking all the time plus the cel comes on and the buzers and lights act like their possessed. I had all I could do just to make it home. What needs replaced in the ecu, where do I get it, and how much? If it is more money to fix it I could get one in a junk yard for cheap. Let me know guys.

have you checked your alternator..the freaky thing with the lights sounds like the battery is dead and when you charge it does it work fine for a little while....either that or a bad connection at the battery or alternator.....i just fixed my sisters car and it was doing something similar...at first it was the negative terminal and then the starter went....what the #%)...anyway that sounds like something electrical...hope that helps

I took apart the ecu today and some kind of gue is around two things I think are compasiters and it smells bad. Where do you get the ecu serviced and how much? Where can you get parts at? If I cant get parts I'll probably just part out the car because it is not worth spending any more money on it. The junk yard wants $200 for the ecu but, the part # does not match.

If it is your capacitors, I ordered some off of ebay for like 3 dollars, I did a search under DSM capacitors I believe....I am getting ready to replace them this weekend....

yeah thats the same one I used as a reference...I work with stuff like that at my work. but even so it was pretty straight forward and took me about 45 minutes.....Mine werent leaking but it is good just to replace them.

My search off of ebay was just keyword: DSM. and they came up in there for like 3 or 4 dollars
