Bad Battery?

I am posting becaus eI know these cars have a week charging system already. My cars stereo turned off on my wau to work. I rev it and it comes back on. The battery was dead when I got to work but no alt light came on the dash ever. Do these cars have a problem charging when the battery dies?

Have both the battery and alternator tested before you start buying parts. The charging system has always worked fone for me.

alt died. It has been giving me signs for awhile. everytime the fan kicked on it was a big deal...but yeah fuses and connections are good.

Sounds like the alternator is going bad. If its not working properly, you'll be running off of the battery voltage only and will drain it completely. Get the battery charged up good first, then make sure the battery is charging at a good 13.5-14.5 volts while running. Anything lower youre looking at a new alternator. Do a load test of the fully charged batter too, to make sure it can hold a load (9.6 volts is good, 9 is low, anything under that, look into replacing the battery.

Oh, and make sure the bulb to the battery light is good. It should come on if the charging system got weak.

+1 for ^^^^^^^^ also, you can use a multi meter on the + and - post of the battery while the car is running to see if the alternator is charging at 13.5-14.5 volts. if it is not it is almost guaranteed the battery is show.
P.S make sure you connections are clean.

Pull the battery out and put it on a charger overnight, reconnect the next day and do the voltage test thingey.

If you want to test alternator, put the red lead from the VOM and the black to ground with the motor running and see if you're getting the 14VDC out of that battery connection (the single lead that is bolted down to the alternator) output from the Alternator. If so, then shove the leads on the battery and take the reading up there, but NEVER run the ALT with the battery disconnected or plan on buying a new Alternator...

Alt died...replaced and installed a red top as well
