So the car was running great. Ive been moding it here and there last night I put a down pipe on it, its to long so i left it hanging to take it to the shop to get in welded up (GOD ITS LOUD). Well i was driving it around and it backfired then cut off. I got it to crank up while giving it 50-100% throttle but would not stay running almost felt like it was missing. It has spark and is getting fuel and ideas? I can smell Fuel! and its kinda giving off a white smoke when trying to start. Spark plugs look OK there covered in gas and are look like its been running rich.

I would check your timing marks, make sure everything is still lined up.

Also, check coil and transistor. If one fails it will cause the car to run on two cylinders and it will be hard to start.

I plunged up a different coil and transistor but it was just laying on the motor did not seem to do any thing. I'm not sure if the coil needs to grounded out or any thing. As far as timing goes it has Greddy timing gears and I am not to sure of the marks on them. Ill have to look it up. I think one of them is retated a little bit not sure why.

I know on a 90 the transistor doesn't need to be grounded, I'm not sure if it is different for other years, and I'm not sure about the coil.

I had to test a transistor yesterday so I plugged it in without mounting it... she fired right up.

Basically the only other simple "failed-sensor-type" things that could stop the motor dead in it's tracks would be cam/crank sensor and ECU.

I just did and one of the bottom ic pipeing is half on half on. Too cold to night to get under it. Do you think it would not idle with out that pipeing on all the way.

It would cause major idle issues without the pipe on. Install it and I bet much of your problems go away. Our cars in stock form have to be "recirculated" to run properly. Start reading up on the term on this site. You'll learn a lot about it. Good luck!

Do a compression test. You might have a blown head gasket.

Could be... but usually a car wont die because of a dead headgasket. In fact, I've blown the HG's on 3 or 4 different cars, and they ran and drove fine. They just pushed a lot of coolant and the oil looked like chocolate milk :D

Check your oil, make sure it isn't milky. If it is coolant leaking from a headgasket and into the combustion chamber, chances are there is coolant in the oil. BUT, that being said, this doesn't really sound like a headgasket failure to me. An HG failure usually wont stop a car in its tracks, it will just make it run a bit rough.

+1 a compression test will solve all of life's little problems!
Sometimes the milkey oil problem does not even show up when a headgasket is blown.
If there is no compression or if the tester needle floats back down to zero, then you may have bent some valves!.. :ohdamn:

I agree with the compression test ^. My car had a blown head gasket and it was still running. It finally just wouldn't crank because i was losing to much compression.

I blew my headgasket and ended up getting water in my cylinders,
Which made it impossible to start.

Must have been a pretty major HG failure!!

I had a headgasket on my thunderbird SC blow and it streamed about 2 gallons of water out the exhaust in less than 2 minutes, BIG leak, and it would still start and run. To this day I'm not sure how the engine didn't hydro-lock and bend a rod...

UPDATE! So Fixed the intercooler pipeing did not fix problem just turns over and does not run. It is still geting spark and fuel, I changed ECU,Coil pack & tans unit,Spark plugs, unpluged maf, only thing I can think of it change the CAS and CPS. Would thoese two effect car wanting to run? I did a compression check 1-3 are 150psi and 4 is 100 its low but the car should still run.

Try swapping the CAS. I was driving down the road with my Talon and it backfired and died. Towed it home and swapped the CAS in the morning and it ran. But then I put my old CAS back on right after that and it ran too so idk. Maybe it wasnt in correctly.

The compression numbers should not be more than 10 PSI apart that may be the reason why it wont start. If you are getting spark then its not the crank position sensor, CPS controls spark, and the CAS controls fuel so they are fine.
If you still dont want to do a compression test then maybe you mixed your spark plug wires up.. I believe the order on the coils are 4,1,2,3. That order is which they line up with the cylinders
