So the only shift knob i like is the Greddy counterweight shift knob and it doesn't fit my new B&M shifter. What is the deal? is it not the right thread cause i'm really pissed. Thanks for the help, i hope someone has a link to where i could get knobs for this kind, thanks again!! im not really pissed just frustrated that it doesn't fit.

That seems strange, is the Greddy knob you have, not for our cars? The B&M shifter should have the same threads as our stock shifter, so I wouldn't think there should be an issue. I know our stock shift knob works with the B&M without an issue.

FYI,

a number of the fake B&m shifters have the wrong knob thread on them.
either you bought a fake, or your greddy knob is threaded for a different car.

Do you know which of the clones do and don't have the right threads? I'm going to buy a clone soon so I want to get one with the right threads.

As far as I've seen with my friends, its a crap shoot.
I ordered a "megan" shifter from an online store we all know and it came with a knob that was threaded to match the shifter. when I called them and said that the shifter would not work with my greddy knob, I was told that I should just use the knob that came with the shifter. well thats all good and well except that the knob was ugly AND what did I buy a greddy knob for?

When I get the cash, I am going to buy the real B&M just to avoid such troubles.
that shifter was the only thing I have every tried to "cheap" out on for my car, and it bit me in the A.

Which diameter is larger? The threaded section of the shifter stick or the knob?

You could always drill out and use heli-coils to fit the knob that you like onto your shifter. Just go to the hardware store or automotive store and find out what threads are on the shifter. Then get the correct heli-coil to drill out and tap and insert the fitting to make it work.

I got lucky on my short shifter. It was supposed to be a B&M, but doesn't say it anywhere on the assembly ( i got it 2nd hand) and i'm not sure if that means it's a fake or not, but the threads fit the stock shift knob.

This is a long shot, but does anybody have this shifter or know if the stock shift knob will fit on it? I e-mailed the seller but haven't received a response yet.

That looks just like a no name/ megan shifter. again it really could go either way, but the threads in the picture look like the larger threads that came on the one I bought...
wont work with stock, or any other mitsubishi threaded knob.

OH and I forgot to mention that the megan that I bought had another problem!
not only was the thread pattern not for a mitsubishi so it would not work with my greddy knob BUT it was also not and other thread that is used by auto makers!!
I checked against honda, subaru, nissan... so on and so forth. Did not work.

So i looked on the box that the B&M shifter came with and it says only for 1.25x threads or something like that. Ill try looking online for B&M shift knobs to insure that the one i get fits. There is quite a variety out there; i mainly wanted the Greddy counterweight just because it looked sick as hell and it weighed 3 pounds LOL, thanks for the help guys.

The threads on my knock off shifter were wrong also. I just cut the off, found a bolt that would fit the shift knob and welded the threads onto the shifter. Works perfectly. If you dont have access to a welder you are just SOL I guess

I've got the "megan" b&m knockoff and the threads were the same as stock, and my greddy counterweight shift knob also threads perfectly onto it.

Megan ones are good units. But things break on them. I was down shifting from 3rd to second today and it snapped one of the pivot shoulders threads off. Can you say "Hello Mr. Tow Truck driver man"? That and they have WAY too much play in 5th gear. I swear, you could pull it almost all the way over to third WTF. So now one of the threads is stuck in the shifter and the rest of the pivot shoulder is crap. Wonder if Megan sells them separately now...

Be safe, buy a B&M. That's what I am doing. Don't they have like a 1 million mile warranty anyway? LOL. (BTW, anyone have any input on them?)

Yay! I'm quoting myself!
After my bad experience with the megan shifter, I bought a real B&M and it has been FLAWLESS.

symborski kit + Under hood cable bushings + REAL B&M shifter + RRE ss clutch cable.
= The Win.
$155 from RRE and I would buy it again for the assurance that it is the correct and properly working part.

Does RRE usually have them in stock? I like to go there whenever I can for parts because they are close enough to me and I enjoy instant gratification of my parts when money is exchanged. That and I need to return a test pipe because they gave me the wrong one :|.

I was there dynoing last night for about 5 hours.
From what I understand, they had 4 on the shelf for so long they had dust on them. When the holidays rolled around they got bought out and B&M keeps saying that they are not discontinued, just not made in nearly the numbers they used to be made in. I don't know if they have any now though.

I noticed that your profile says Lancaster.
I grew up and lived there till 2001. Now I live in San Diego.

To add to this thread for those who may still want to know the answer to this question. The knockoff I have also did NOT work with my stock shifter size. It did however fit perfectly with my old shift knob for my honda s2k. So there is your answer- they are threaded for whatever size the s2k's were.

By reading through the giant eBay short shifter thread, it would seem that years ago most of the knock-off shifters were threaded incorrectly, and through time this problem seems to have been, for the most part, fixed. I am sure there are warehouses full of the incorrectly threaded shifters that are being burned off by many eBay vendors.

It is hit-or-miss at this time whether the shifter you buy will be threaded correctly or not, and appears to vary by vendor.

My factory knob threaded onto my B&M clone just fine.
