When engine gets hot my idle jumps from 750 to 2500-3000 (no overheating problems).
After touching the gass pedal briefly, idle sometimes goes down to 1200 but then start rising again.

Checked idle control motor with OHM meter and all the coils are intact.

Please advise

try looking at your throttle linkage where it connects on the TB, retard the throttle with your fingers at the TB and see if your idle decreases. Did this just start, have you done mods and it all of a sudden started?

69_luv has it right, try closing the TB further than it is currently going. If that helps, clean the TB, and adjust the cable (minimum do the cable, you may be able to live w/o cleaning the TB, but it is a good idea to do so). Also grease up the spring, and what you can of the cable.

i am also having the same problem. everytime its hot and i drive off, my car idles around 1500rpm. i then mess with the throttle cable and my idle goes back to normal. idk if its my throttle cable since it isnt loose, not too tight, and also this idle problem only comes up when the weather is real hot.

I had this problem, and closed the TB flapper with my fingers ie where the linkage hooks up to the TB, when its hot move this forward closing the flapper. If the idle decreases, and you have checked your IC (idle control), try cleaning your tb. I sprayed some PLS (supretech lubricant) and cleaned my TB. It was really dirty. fixed the prob

Try this and if it fixes it post, if it doesn't post anyway and maybe we can help troubleshoot some more.

Do you have cruise control? I had the same problem I would drive and my car would idle at up nears 2500rpm...Then i could open the hood and touch the throttle cable and it would go back down...It seems that it was getting stuck on my cruise control box...So I bought a non- cruise control throttle cable and pulled the cruise all together...been workin fine ever since

the thing is, why would it happen when the engine is hot? the same is occuring with Devistator, it only seems to happen when the vehicle is pretty warmed up.

i tried removing the TB elbow so i can clean it up, but i cant seem to get the bolts loose!

It could b only happening when the engine is hot because if the throttle body isn't closing rite or the cable is getting hung up it doesn't necesarilly happen all the time...One time u could b wot and it could close just fine the next the cable could get hung up and the plate won't close right

heat expansion maybe? I don't know but I had the same prob, when the car was hot the car idle was high, and when it was cold, no probs. Try cleaning the TB, and the linkage.
Good luck

dude, welcome to the most common problem known to DSM's. I also had the same problem with my old 90 laser, which by the way I sold without ever being able to fix. If DSM.org is back up they have a good tech page that will take you step by step through fixing your idle surge problem. Whatever you do, don't let some idiot mechanic try to mess with your TPS trying to get it to idle normal. Luckily for us DSM owners, the problem doesn't actually hurt your engine too much. My advice is that if you can't learn to live with it, take it in to a licensed mitsubishi mechanic. Or...if you really really, and I mean really know your stuff, then check out that FAQ on DSM.org. THe only problem is that the bloody site keeps going down. If you're lucky it might just be a loose vacuum hose, but probably not. Good luck man.

demonchild, haha, i dont think a loose vacuum hose would be the solution to this problem. it is pretty hard to live with a high revving sound. im pretty sure you should already know, right?

69_luv, how did u go about cleaning the throttle body? did u just remove the throttle body elbow and sprayed inside the throttle plate, or did u remove the entire throttle body assembly? also, did cleaning the throttle body and linkage close the deal for you, or did u do other things to help cure the problem?

I would like to thank all of you who helped me with this anoying problem.

The sucker is fixed.

Generous ammount of silicon spray works like charm.

Guys U r the best

Ok where did you spray? On the cable or the linkage. I also have this problem and I have tried a different TB with different sensors. It doesnt seem to be closing the butterfly all the way when I let off the throttle. I have new cables ordered.

I actually removed the entire TB and took as much of it apart as I could on my workbench, and used mad PLS spray. It was really really dirty, and yes when I put it all back together my idle surge was cured and has been for a little while now. Congrats on fixing your prob though Devistator.

As for you Nerfbars, It took a lot of spray right at where the linkage connects to the TB, where the armature goes into the TB.

Devistator, you might have to re-spray if your lubricant goes dry....after awhile

i have a problem similar to that. a few days i changed my oil, used gunk out while idling, then changed oil wit some lucas. day after tat i having idling problems. my idle surges, wats wierd is now sumtimes it has problems staying on, idles drops to zero adn dies. i noticed wen it dies the cable is sumwat loose? any info on how to fix this? thanx

:thumb: after researching much info on idle surge from many places i found the most common problem was the isc. today i changed my isc for an xtra one that came with my jdm engine, pia to replace cuz i wasnt able to remove tb elbow. i did that and readjusted the biss and my idle surge is gone. thank you god!
