I have a 91 fwd turbo and my trans is going out. I have a 92 AWD tranny sitting in my garage. I know this swap can be done. I read and searched, but the problem is in every thread or post I have read people talk of the swap or state they have the swap but it was done when they bought the car. I have a new clutch, TOB, and AWD flywheel on the way, but what all else is involved? all I know for sure is the welding of the T case piece so it doesnt spin. any help would be awesome.

Ok, let's throw out some stuff.

1. Did you search? (answer no or something else)
2. Can it be done? yes but good luck on a 1g
3. Some information for you

If you were too lazy to search and to lazy to click on the links, the answer is:

A shop did manage to do the swap in a 1g and they said it cost so much more it would have been better to just buy a 1g awd and transplant everything.

Can we close this thread now?

I apologize if I was not clear! or maybe you didnt read! I said nothing about doing a a full AWD swap. I only want a AWD tansmission in my FWD. The gearing and strength are better in the AWD trans or atleast thast what I have been told

Yes, you will need a welded center diff, or a VCE, or a TRE center diff spool. This is actually pretty common in the higher hp fwd cars..

Bane3d - before you get on your soapbox, It was me who did the 1g AWD conversion..and yes it is a lot of work, but its doable. Second, he asked about using a awd tranny in a fwd, not a conversion.

I'm running an AWD trans with merely a VCE behind my 4G15 in my mirage. 10K miles so far with no issues.

I just found a thread in which someone "suggested"

"but I would reccomend also changing over to AWD front axles incorporating the halfshaft on the drivers side. If you use the AWD trans, you will also need to change slave cylinders, starters, and flywheels"

from what I have read and heard I thought it was only the fly wheel that mattered besides the center diff. any thoughts?

I am on a tight budget and have another vehicle I can drive. You think I should just sell the AWD trans and spend the money and send mine to shep??
