I think some where I heard this will not work long term, it some how damages the tranny?

But would it hurt the tranny to say cut the front drive shafts in half. and make some kind of custom pice to weld them to the frame so they can not turn. In doing so sending 100% of the power to the rear?

I Figure if I did it this way any time I wanted to go back to AWD (if this will work) is just take out the frame work and thoughs axel's and just put in some nice new axels..

I would realy like to know if this can be done without damageing the tranny.

Becouse frankly I want RWD... I will be buying my bros 90 AWD TSI just like mine except his is BONE stock and half the miles. That way I would have a RWD DSM and a AWD DSM :D

Hello??

*bump*

I know the RIGHT way would be to get a startion or conquest transmition I guess and move the engine 90* left. BUT thats an ass load of work.

SOO is there any other way to make the car RWD and not break something?

I dont see why you couldnt just remove the front driveshafts, althought I dont have a AWD and have no idea what i am talking about

(you can't just remove the front axels becouse power is then sent where there is no traction... no axels no go)

well horse shit. SO I HAVE to move the engine and use a conquest transmition???

(Could some one tell me why I can't just remove the central diff?)

You could easily weld the center diff remove the front axles and cap off the front axle holes in the trans. Your car would then be rear wheel drive.

Until it breaks. The rear half of the AWD isn't robust enough to be the sole drive on a DSM for any extended period.

Exactly i just wanted to make it clear that it is possible but not practicle.

Even with a fully built TRE drive train and 4bolt rear end?
Well, let's take the simple route:

1.) How many RWD DSMs have you heard of?

2.) Why do you suppose that is?

After all, everyone knows:

ahemmm... The eclipse motor faces sideways, all rwd cars have their motors facing fowards. So if you look at the only three rwd dsms in existance(besides a mighty max), which are buschur who has two and brent Rae$#@%, anyway their motors face forward and buschur runs a GM power glide tranny. It is a major hack!
Anyway AWD is sooo much cooler and better.

Was wondering how many people have done it or have heard of it. Would like to convert my 2G to a rwd. Yes i know it is going to take some work but i dont see much of them and i like rwd better.

If anyone knows of a link plz post

thanks

Yup - all of that power through the rearend IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!! Only RWD DSM's I've seen/heard of are full drag setups with a much stronger rearend (Ford 9in.) and the 4G63 has been turned lenghtwise...

did not plan on stickin with the stock rear end. Any suggestions as far as rear ends go??

I cant believe that no one had done this for a street car. Yea its a lot of work but there got to be someone more crazy then me:(

Im just wondering on why you would like to do this?. I would rather have awd you dont half to worry about traction issue's and hey it's awsome in the snow.

not going to be using this car in the winter..going to be a summer car only. Plus i like rwd a lot better. little easier to control the car during corners.

Try life with AWD. This ain't no pansy nazi part-of-the-time Audi FWD-with-AWD-if-I-think-you-really-need-it crap, nor the queerbait Subaru 65/45 baloney, this is true 50/50 AWD. You can't swing the rear end out like RWD, because while the rear's trying to do that, the front's also pulling toward where you're steering. Once you get used to it and learn the characteristics, it's even better than RWD.

We have a 50/50 AWD distribution? I thought it was like 60/40 or something so the wheels would turn correctly...that you could only get 50/50 with a weld center diff or VCE? Correct me if I am wrong so I know for sure.

I never said there were problems with steering did I. As far as drive getting used to it.. i am used to it. The car is going to be built for racing purposes only....so no awd is not better then rwd. (autocross)

I was asking if people have done it or know someone who has...not tell me why i should not do it.
