I think it was buschurs old car, maybe he still has it. But the engine was turned so that the cam gears were facing the radiator and it was rwd. But other then that I don't know.

i have heard that if you weld the spider gears together that this is possible to do .....but get ready to break things ......as just about evrything after that will be a weak link.

I would like to know if theres a way to convert my 93 talon tsi AWD to RWD. Can u undo the front axle or something? or is their something i can buy such as the WRX STI's have where you can switch between AWD and RWD? any help is appreciated.
I'd like to know if there's a way to get posters to realize that "u" does not replace "you".

Also, can we get you to look up threads that are already beaten to death out there?

Maybe this is a dumb question, maybe it's been done many times before. But I haven't found any literature on it.

Why couldn't a guy, "Weld" his Viscous Coupler, and Weld his Center Diff, cut up some CV axles, have the stubs coming out of the tranny(for the front outputs, stabilized, of course) and the stubs bolted up to the steering spindles(for the support). And strictly run RWD?

Am I missing something completely, or is this a viable solution? It'd be neat to have a RWD tranny sittin around the shop to use from time to time(smoke).

My Mirage has a Quaife front and welded center.

If something goes wrong with a front axle, I can just stick a cup in the transmission/hub and the car will be RWD. If something goes wrong with the xfer case, driveshaft or rear, I can just pull the xfer case/driveshaft and be FWD. I wouldn't recommend putting a lot of power through the transfer case, since that's where it would all be going, but it was fun drifting around corners RWD. I just stuck a cup in the transmission on the passenger side and a cup in the passenger hub. That's it!

So, transfercase, driveshaft, and Rearend withstanding, this is a sound theory?

This has been talked about a lot. In theory it would work, but youd have to have a completely built transfer case and rear diff, because they're not used to getting that much power. You'd probably still end up breaking something, but it is possible, just not practical.

The idea of having a transverse-front-engine, rear-wheel-drive car is -(how do I say this without having a moderator send me another of those "be nice, please" notes?)- totally whacked. And, as already mentioned, unless you have a non-turbo, I wouldn't expect the transfer case or rear axles to last very long.

If you are either sick of driving a car that behaves like a wrong-wheel-drive or you want to go drifting, get a Cusco 35/65 center. You will still break the T-case or a rear axle at some point, but that point will probably be about twice as far way.

Unless you try to launch it, of course. ;)

This has been discussed too many times now. here is another discussion about it which will give you more info if you are really interested. http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1530509#post1530509

Anyone think it possible to take a mitsubishi starion or chrysler conquest and put the motor tranny and drivetrain in a eclipse 2g. I'm just thinking that be kinda cool to see anyone ever heard of anyone trying it out. i think it could happen. :dsm:

Agreed but the cool thing is that littie scales of justice that has negative and positive rep points use it on rookies then they stay in the rookie forum. :thumb:

Here are a few things for you to take into consideration.

The Starion conquest motor isn't as good as a 4g63.

Your power steering rack is in the way

The tunnel for an awd driveshaft is a little too awkard for a rwd trans

and Dsm rear ends arent the tightest box of crackers on the shelf.

It could be done. ANYTHING can be done. But why?

It woud take a decent amount of fabrication and time.

Sounds like a 240sx is right up your alley. :thumb:

if anything why not just get an awd, then make the front wheels not get power

seems much easier than completely changing the whole engine bay around to fit a different engine in
