wow thats awesome. So that will hold up to abuse? you have to correct thats a longest rwd burnout from a DSM we'll ever see. Because I've seen longer burnouts than that from a FWD DSM. But anywho, nice video :thumb:

wow, that was amazing, "Are you f---ing kidding me?!!!!!" is right! those marks have to be like 200ft long, did you get a final measurement?

How hard is it to do this??? I am really considering making my awd rwd after seeing that.

it all started when my rear diff. started to take a crap, i knew it was going to go some day because of the clicking from the rear spider gears, anyway i decided to take one of my 15 trannys laying around and build a temporary rwd tranny to blow up my rear diff. So i took my tranny apart and welded one side of the center diff, took out the viscous coupling and took out 2 of the spider gears and the one side gear that drove the front diff. i also ended taking out the front diff. (not nesscary). put all that back together and used two frost plugs to block off the front axle holes in the tranny case and put stub shafts threw the front wheel bearing to hold the preload on the bearings. Then i called my friend and told him to grab the camera and lets go blow up my rear diff. so anyways it lasted about a week. it was damn fun until i had to tow it home! :dsm:

Hey guys I am really interested in doing a rwd conversion on my talon. It is AWD. I have searched, but havent come up with any solid answers. What is needed to do this conversion. Does it have to be awd to start? Any helpful information, links, faqs, etc are greatly appreciated. How hard is this to do? Thanks for your time. matt

I just wouldn't do it. You could fabricate and turn the motor the right way, or pull the front cvs and blow up your viscous coupling. Its basically asking for trouble and I wouldn't do it.

As you'll find if you keep searching, you aren't going to do it with a sidewinder motor. The transfer case, for one, won't bear the stress.

If you're going so far as to drop in a Starion (etc.) driveline, take lots of pictures. We'll all be watching as though a small child was crawling across a busy street.

Until then, closed.

Uh, my car has a switchable center diff. It is a jdm galant vr4 tranny. I don't know much about them but i know I can switch it from fwd to awd or vice versa. From what I know, the center diff has a shift fork, which locks it, and the transfer case has another shift fork that makes the rear driveshaft "freewheel" in a sense. I have thought about pulling the shafts out of the front driveshafts, leaving only the cups and locking the center diff, I think it would make it rwd. But I don't have expierence with it yet so take that as you want. I haven't yet but i currently have a blown headgasket, so it can wait.

by the way, my car is about to be gutted, seam welded, and I am going to put a 10 point cage in, port everything and take as much weight out as possible, and fix the headgasket of course. So after that I might try swapping things around just because i can. I'll tell you guys if i do.

I would like to know if theres a way to convert my 93 talon tsi AWD to RWD. Can u undo the front axle or something? or is their something i can buy such as the WRX STI's have where you can switch between AWD and RWD? any help is appreciated.

First off the search button is your best friend. And yes it has been done. But not as you are talking with SWITCHABLE back and forth. Im sure it could be done taking a lot of $$$$$$$$ for that.

Yes there is a way. I'm not sure what the method is, but I've seen it done. Search on here a bit you might find some info. I know there was a video of a rwd 1g a while ago.
