i know this is stupid but I was thinking it just might work. could you remove the front axles and just put some type of placeholder or stub of another axle in its place so the fluid will stay in and then you would be FWD? or would this effect something?

Read the 10th post in the thread.

Some things are just not meant to be... If you want a RWD get one that is. Leave the eclipses alone hehe ;) :D :p

Only by the most broad of definitions. He drives a full-tube dragster that happens to have a DSM-shaped body over it.

The stock drivetrain is nowhere near strong enough to live by RWD alone.

Not to mention he uses a GM Powerglide.

I would love to have a rwd dsm, the best of both worlds, you can get more traction than fwd and not lose all the power the awd's lose, and you could drift :D

I watched Tuner Transformation the other day and they turned a FWD Toyota Paseo into a RWD by using a Tacoma engine and drivetrain and a lot of work cutting and fitting and fabricating. They had a 12K budget.

thought some of you guys whould like to see this, i don't have the video on the site yet but you can go over to www.Dynotuned.com and click on the link that says "josh's Great Burnout". Enjoy :dsm:

That's an awesome burnout :thumb: Did you guys just drop the front drive axles on a AWD car? Would running a AWD tranny like that cause damage to the trans?

it all started when my rear diff. started to take a crap, i knew it was going to go some day because of the clicking from the rear spider gears, anyway i decided to take one of my 15 trannys laying around and build a temporary rwd tranny to blow up my rear diff. So i took my tranny apart and welded one side of the center diff, took out the viscous coupling and took out 2 of the spider gears and the one side gear that drove the front diff. i also ended taking out the front diff. (not nesscary). put all that back together and used two frost plugs to block off the front axle holes in the tranny case and put stub shafts threw the front wheel bearing to hold the preload on the bearings. Then i called my friend and told him to grab the camera and lets go blow up my rear diff. so anyways it lasted about a week. it was damn fun until i had to tow it home! :dsm:

SWEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude that rocks! Loved it. Wish I had the parts and money to do sh*t like that.

talk about traction issues  almost glad our cars aren't rwd after seeing that.

I believe Scott Wegman Dyno'd his car in this config. I'm sure everything is built so that nothing breaks when he made the 800+ rwhp dyno run.

Dynoing a vehicle in RWD is alot different than launching the same car in RWD with slicks on it.

A quick hit will break things alor easier than a slow application of power.

the burnout started in first gear and then the rest of it is in second gear, later that day i did another one and easily got into 4th gear with out bogging the engine at all.

LOL thats awesome ... how long was it until your rear diff blew completely?

it took about a week or so, it broke when i launched it in 2nd gear.

All that on a 14b...I couldn't imagine what it would be like with a bigger turbo.

Also I notice you have automatic cams as a mod....are they not worse then manual cams?

damn I wish I had the time to do that...I have the tools, know how and a lift at work....but I definatly dont have the time...

supposedly the jdm auto cams are better than the US manual cams but not as good as the JDM manual cams. :dsm:
