i have a quick question, can i use 1G awd springs (Eiback pro kit... purchased when still had my 90 TSi awd) with my 92 TSI. i remember reading somewhere that awd springs work better on fwd for some reason or another? is this true? or should i just get some fwd springs.

Dunno but if ya wanna sellem Im interested!

Since the 1G AWD car is heavier due more unsprung weight (i.e., AWD drivetrain) Mitsubishi increased the spring rate for the AWD car. Thus when putting these stiffer springs on your lighter weight FWD 1G, then you will have:
less body roll,
less squat and dive,
and since the suspension is stiffer, it will make more use of your tire sidewall flex.

Although, your car will be less comfortable/supple of a ride, due to the higher spring rate.

sorry but i'm not selling them (if they would not fit on my fwd i was gonna give them to a buddy with a 91 gsx). i will just put them on my car then ... i don't care about comfort.

The front springs you can use... the backs won't fit. Just compare your buddies back suspension to yours. Completely different.

Well look just in case but I'm 95% sure you can't.

Hello? About 95% of the additional weight of an AWD over a FWD is sprung, with only half of the rear axles being additional unsprung weight. You do know that our cars have IRS and not a live axle, right?

Oh, yeah, changing from 134/129 to 146/140 is going to make a huge difference.

actually it will since they won't mount correctly i'm sure it would create a huge difference in the way it handles :)

Sorry, I meant sprung weight, not unsprung weight.
As for the spring rates, I think that it is noticable--but more than that, the entire suspension set-up will effect handling characteristics.

so i guess that means i can use them. i don't care about comfort

no it means you can't use them. the rear suspension design is totally different and the springs are not interchangeable.

well i guess the vfaq.com needs to update there shiznit ... along with the other places i read. a bunch of sites list that they are interchangeable ... something that fwds handle better with awd springs  i don't know ...

i've seen people use gsx springs on a galant vr4 before, but never a fwd. i myself have tried installing the shocks from an awd onto a fwd and know that they won't match up, i'm only assuming that the springs won't either since the design for the spring perch looked different to me.

know my luck they probably don't line up ... i looked into it alot when i first my fwd (3 owners later and my 92 tsi came back to me  ) but i never looked into it or cared when i had my awd. i think i will just give them to friend (he did replace my glazed clutch last weekend anyways)

The 1st gen AWD rear springs will work just fine on a1 gen fwd car. :thumb:

In fact, 1G AWD front and rear springs DO fit in a 1G. I can tell because I am using a set of Suspension Techniques lowering springs that were designed for an Awd in my FWD. :thumb:
