My search showed of this forum showed that the axle should pop out with some prying, but I haven't had such luck. I have replaced axles on over a half dozen cars and have never seen one so stubburn. My '91 NT Talon axles were very complient to the crowbar.

Anyway, I removed the transmission with the axle still in (I'm replacing the engine anyway) thinking I would have a better angle for prying the axle with it out of the car. It still won't budge. I have already ruined the seal. Anyone have a suggestions

keep prying at different angles eventually it will come out. you just need the right angle on it

Take a flathead screwdriver of decent size. Not HUGE though. Hammer it in. Turn the screwdriver. May need to get a pair of vise grips on the screwdriver to help turn. I have had ALOT more luck this way then the prying method.

Thanks for all the replies. I wanted to be sure I wasn't doing something wrong. I will keep trying the prying/twisted screwdriver proceedure. I may have to buy a balljoint extractor. Great forum, DSMer's are great.

I experienced the same problem as stated above with the various DSM's I've worked on and if I couldn't get it with a flat head screwdriver, I found the pickle fork ( ball joint tool as stated above) works just well.

I got it. Using the idea of the ball joint fork I took a blunt chisel and smacked it a couple of times with a 2lb hammer. I could have done that in the car, would have saved a lot of frustration.

glad you got it out. Thought about recomending the fork idea. Just didnt think that anybody else had that much problem as i did once. LOL
