Hey guys Just had a question and didnt really come up with anything
after searching.

I have a 95 GSX

From what I understand its locked 50/50 diff

Well If I use 225/45/18 on the front
and if I use 225/40/18 on the rear

Could this become a problem?

Wouldnt the front travel just a ahir longer than the rear and causing the dif to lock?

Please let me know soon. Im getting them put on in an hour.

Thanks!!!!!

you should be ok since you are not changing the diameter of the wheel, just the width,(225 is the height of the tire and 45 is the percentage of 225) altho i do recomend sticking with the same size all around for an awd car.

Yea, very bad idea to run staggered wheels... Unless you wanna change you t-case? WTF

Also the diff is not locked 50/50, but different sized tires can cause the differential to lock up.

You can stagger the wheels IF you match external diameter properly, but I don't expect you have any good reason too. Buy the same tires all around.

50/50 is what 4WD does. That is the difference between the two, AWD is usually 60/40 or somewhere around therea nd often times variable while 4WD for the most part is 50/50 and often times locked.

Yeah, thanks I got my answer on another forum

Even having uneven tread from the front to rear and cuase strain on the
diff and over time heat it up, untill it locks up and leaves me on the road somewhere.

thanks guys.

Thanks
Im thinking Its best just to pick up some new wheels and tires of my choice.

Might as well.

Plus, Hooked up my boost gauge, Sooo happy.
Love it. Full boost is +11-13
and idle is -18

:D

Thanks guys, Sry I didnt really find when searching.

Guys are being a great help to all my questions:thumb:

As long as the overall height of the tires are the same you will have no problems with the LSD.

Just to clear things up:

In a 45 series tire, 45 does not stand for the sidewall height in mm. 225/45/18 for example.

The 45 is the aspect ratio. It is the sidewall height compared to the width. Essentially a percentage.

To find the sidewall height in mm, you would multiply the width in mm(225) by .45(aspect ratio).

225mm X .45 = ~101mm

For the overall height of the tire, multiply that number by 2(there are 2 sidewalls:p) and add it to the rim height in mm(or both in inches, just use the same units). Conversion factor from inches to mm is ~25.4

Height of rim: 18in X 25.4 = ~457mm

Overall sidewall: 101mm X 2 = 202mm

Overall tire height: 202mm + 457mm = 659mm
or divide that by 25.4 and get ~26in

As stated, the closer the overall tire height between tires the better; exact is ideal.
Also, even if the tires have the same aspect ratio but a different width, they will not have the same sidewall height.

You could change the 225/40/18 rear tire to 250/40/18 or 255/40/18 width to get about the same sidewall height,
or change the 225/45/18 front tire to 200/45/18.
