Does anyone know if a n/t engine can be run with an AWD tranny with out being turbo'd would it work? Because I'm getting a 1G body mint with full leather interior (for free) and the guys throwing in an awd tranny, cv axles and drive shaft for $100. I need to know because I don't wanna f up my only good engine.

Not in a 1g. The rear and center of the chassis is completely different.

That goes for turbo and non-turbo FWD 1g's.

@SmoochDarling- how did you make the wire harness from the turbo to the n/t work? swap it or what?

I guess I should have clarified a little more, the chassis I'm getting is an AWD chassis and I'm planning on swapping my n/t engine into it and possibly scrapping my n/t chassis and it has rust in the sub frame and around the body.
Chassis is free but I'm paying $100 for the tranny, flywheel, drive shaft and both CV axles.

I ran turboless for a week while doing a swap and getting all the parts together, the 4g63t's a total gutless dog without boost =P
Ya I could Imagine! its also hard on the engine running with a blown turbo. (as far as I know)

Its pretty easy, the n/t engine will run just fine it the turbo shell just have to make jumpers to connect the wiring going to the resistor pack so it doesnt change the imp of he injectors (assuming your running the nt injectors), id suggest an awd clutch/flywheel setup, when i orginally got my awd the guy had a nt engine in it and later i turbo'd it then moved on to building an engine. The n/t and awd sucks for pickup but does awesome in the snow as an awd underpowered car ;)

Ok how would I go about making jumpers for the resistor pack? wouldn't I have to swap the ECU as well? I do have a completely good g1 n/t (other then the rusty Chassis) I could swap the harness's out. I just dont wanna hack the AWD harness because I will eventually need it. The engine mounts are the same to right?

So is the car that you are putting it in a awd or fwd car from the factory.

My engine is from my factory n/t eclipse going into a factory AWD talon. I think motor mount wise I should be good and the tranny should bolt right up ### the transfer case's are the same. The only thing I'll need is a new clutch and pressure plate and possibly switch out my wiring harness's.

Ok sweet, I'm set then. I'll just fix up my n/t chassis later in the summer then while I drive the n/t in the AWD chassis.

Thanx for putting resolved for me 99gst_racer, I still dont know how to switch it to say resolved.

Just use some female connectors to slide into the plug on the wiring harness (+ side because the injectors are ground triggered), run wires off the female connectors and solder or wire them together. Ecu I dont think really matters, I ran a turbo ecu and it ran fine, you can swap it for now to run the nt maps on the nt ecu, use the awd engine/trans mounts I believe the only different one is the rear if I remember correctly. Sorry its been a few years since I did this.

Not trying to be rude I don't know your
Budget or anything but why not just get
A turbo engine there pretty cheep like 400$ I promise once you go boost
You'll never go n/a again

I 2nd Turbotsiawd, boost makes all the difference, even when I boosted the n/t engine I had it really came alive! Granted then you would need a turbo, feed lines, coolant lines, turbo exhaust or fab something up. Even at putting in and doing with what you have now isn't a bad idea ;) Can always run it as is with the n/t engine and build or buy a turbo engine to drop in later.

...and have an engine that won't last a month unless you run exotic fuels. Even so, the pistons are weak. I thought I could defy logic and run a turbo on the n/a block. It didn't last too long before losing compression and getting major blow-by. The engine didn't even have 50k on it. The 1G aggressive timing meant for 7.8:1 isn't too kind to 9.0:1. The engine spent it's life turboed in a 2G. An 8.5:1 timing tune is kinder than a 7.8:1 tune. It was nice and ballsy at first, then it just got boring and a pain to keep oil levels where they should be.

This is where every instance is different, I ran 14psi on a stock turbo on a 1g 7bolt n/t in my 92 awd talon, never even ran a intercooler and ran it hard for a year without an issue. Only pulled it to drop in my 6bolt. Still have the short block in the garage (head was built fot the new engine). Yes I agree I got very lucky and it shouldn't have worked but regardless the fact stands as it did work. He is best to install the n/t engine and drive it til he can find a turbo engine or build one if he doesn't have the current funds to go ahead and do so.
