I just finished a rebuild of my early 91 trans...ALL new bearings, syncros, seals, welded CD, upgraded 5th syncro slider-hub and fork rail assembly....
after final assembly with preloads on CD,input shaft and intermediate @.005-.007, as measured...my input shaft seems too tight....i can turn the shaft by hand...and go thru the gears...just seems like its tight! car is not a daily driver and makes 500whp

IIRC the input shaft spec is .000 to .004" freeplay, while the other shafts need preload. I've built it with a few thou preload on high power builds and it works fine. If it's too tight it will be hard to get into first gear when the car is stopped.

yep...iv'e looked at specs all over the web...I figured bearings were easy to obtain compared to early gearsets ;)...thanks for the info...it seems that alot of drag race trannys are on the "tight side"...
