So I have been experiencing a problem with my rear driver side CV axle popping out of the differential and I believe its being caused by a worn circlip. I want to replace the clip but I have been having troubles finding one. I read that the FWD axle circlip is 29 mm, does anybody know if it is the same size on a rear AWD axle? Or does anybody know the actual size for the AWD rear axle?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Call Brian at Terhune raceworks tomorrow, 1 (317) 339-2145. He's a 17 year Mitsu tech and will know exactly and probably have a path number and or part for ya. Hope that helps!

Ya that's a good idea! He makes my race axles and knows everything about everything on these cars inside and out!! You could also call mitsubishiparts.com and ask them for a oem part number or part, either should work!

I'd like to see how a CV axle pops out of the diff without taking apart the knuckle first? Curious, because it would speed up my job when replacing CV axles on modern cars/trucks.

My guess is under turns, the axle will pop out. Not enough to cause any harm to it but enough to probably leak all your trans fluid out.

The op is referring to his rear axle. Witch should only be affected by suspension travel.\

Maybe the car has been lowered or has worn out springs/struts, so there is unwanted pressure pulling on the axel during big trailing arm depressions.

Same concept. Suspension cycling will induce all types of movement, depending on what kind of modifications have been done and what the alignment is at. Toe, camber, even caster will all change as it cycles. The diff will move during power on, especially more so with worn diff mounts.

Initially when the axle popped out, I assumed it was due to worn bushings/struts. So I replaced all the bushings with polyurethane ones and changed both struts. The axle still pops out and leaks oil all over the place. The car isn't lowered at all.
