Well, title says it all. I know its been bounced around but no one done it. But after a few years or hording dsm part I ended up with a conpmete gsx (two more 1gs on the way) a set of sub frames extra blocks and heads, to much to list. The mini is a 1968 wolseley hornet that I drove way too far to get ( from n.h to florida) have had it avout year got I running drove later found out it wasnt a real hornet it actually an 80 mini with a hornet body parts. That discovery mhas brought me to this since its not authentic im ganna have fun. Ive done alot of measuing it will fit...barelly

So far ive managed to pretty gut the I side drill the spot weld that hold the fenders on and cut the A panel he the fenders a spot welded to as well. Not how most people do it as far as cutting the A panel but mine were rotted so I dont really care. Also did so parts organizing

Sry if any pics are kind of out of order doing this on a phone is a pain. But thats where I am at now hopefully this weekend ill be picking up some 1 1/4 × .120 wall dom tubing to start fabing the sub frame up.
(I kbow this isnt a dsm but I didnt see any place other places to put a build thats dsm related but not a actual eclipse or talon)

Not as big of an update but a local found out about my project from a someone else in town. Heaproached mean told me he will show me how to cut down the drive shaft and cv's. hes also got a cnc at his house, so thats plus . Also dropped the front subframe and motor today wasnt all that bad bolts camme out incredibly easy and under side of the car is pretty mint minus some dent in the floor pan from poor jack placment by a previous owner (s). Hopefully friday ill get that rears out and possibly get the dom tubing to start fabing up subframes.

Tried to remove the black plastic from under the motor kinda messes with you eyes, makes hard to see where on subframe ends and the other begins.

Also started chenging the color of sum bucket seats I ripped out of a ford probe I scrapped no one wanted them do do to the red colo, so I figured i'd throw them in the mini with harnesses just get them out of the way

Got some more stuff done, managed to get the nose off after getting the engine and sub frame out and built a rotisserie to make life a little easier also got the rear sub frame out and picked up some 1-1/2 x .120 dom tube steel. Have also decided to build tye motor and run my big h1c holset with a bullseye hhousing. Might ad welk go all out if im going this far.

Thanks:D im glad you guys like the build should be some more progress soon I just picked up a new 175 mig, now I just got to get a gas bottle and my tubing bender and Iill be starting to build the front sub frame. The benders is going to ti be a week or two to ship so in the meantine ill be continusously reworking the subframe plans to see the best way to run horzobtally mounted coil overs.

You talking about the mini or the 1g? The mini is kind of a mutt, its an 80s mini that sone converted to a hornet so I dont feel all that quilty since the bassic mini shell is still being manufactured by some conpany who hought the right to make the old style minis. The 1g iI used is in horifying shape, that cars been hit a few times so things had to be hacked to get the alignment right its rotted and leaks every fluid haha and the sub frames I bought off a junk yard so my concious has managed to stay free. The mini is my baby ive wanted one for years and 1100 miles to pick it up so it was hard at first to take a gribder and a cut off wheen to it but i know she will be ten times better aince its going to get the body restored. But yeah the mini comunity isnt very impressed with me sincw tye hornet is obe of the hardest to find

Yeah I was referring to the hornet. I cut a 1g up to keep my galant alive. Although I like 1g's I like them better for there parts;) I really like what you are doing and fully understand why. I also have thought about making a mini GSX. Very cool idea!!

I also thought about using an Austin America for the swap. Since they are skittle longer and way cheap to pick up.

An austin america would be pretty cool I havnt seen anyone playing with those. I just cant wait to get the thing going its gaanna be fun blowing the doora off everything in area were I live with car thats only 4.5 feet tall. I love the 1g talons there so ugly that there good looking haha. I have a hard time cutting up the 1g if I think about it to much im always trying to find any reason to not do it but its in such bad condition it definitly time for it to go. I think Id cut up a 1g for a galant though I love those too.

haha yeah i got a deal on my galant. ive wanted one for years. and im sure you are already planning for this. but make sure you find a way to add frame support from the front sub frame all the way to the back. the old mini's are tin cans and will twist and deform with anything over 200hp.

I restore vintage Mini's and have seen quite a few that were 1/4-1/2" off from one end to the other. not that they really had a chance from the beginning haha.

whats the measurments for how wide the body is vs how wide the 1g suspension will be?
widebody time!!
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd146/Dr_customs/hon_mini_1_Y5hrj_7071.jpg

also a little trick the Racers use is they extend the front nose out about 2-3 Inches for more room

I saved my 1g six bolt and drivetrain for something like this! interested to see how it goes. Might end up using the 6 bolt and some of the wiring harness though to get my 2g 6 bolt swap running as mock up instead though, untill I m ready to put my built one in.

I thought about that I figured since im ganna put a cage in it it shoulf tie it all together. I wont get in it with out a cage my original pln was just to run a stock engine but I have a built head with doubke springs and over sized valvesalong with bc 280s (prob wont use them) sitting around and that big holset. I dont want to use them in a tsi ### I tend to want to dd those and I know how hard it can be to daily a built up dsml. But the mini wont be a daily its gannasee alot of weekend streets and drags strips. So it will be a good home for the performce parts. I dobt think its going to go to bad the hard part is the front subframe design there still arwas that got me kinda scratching my head but its all coming together slowly

Small up date. No real progress went to get a welder and then didn't have the one I want so I ended up buy a 175 instead of a 130 so I need to get 220 ran out to my garage.also will be picking up the 2 dsms finally so I can getvmy harness and ecu finally. Also started to pull apartbs block I picked for 100$ was told it ran but was making 'bad noises" took apart s found a broken piston and a spun bearing also the rod bolts were no where near the required torque spec. Was able to undo them with a 1/4 inch ratchet with no hassle which was a first for me LOL.

Old vs new

Holy crap! i cant believe something like this is being done in my back yard!

Thanks for subs and taking interest in the project.Im going to pick up the wiring harness and ecu for the car tomarrow. I got my welder running but the regulator that came with it is bad so once I replace that I can start fabing the subframes. A buddy is lending me a pipe bender so that helps my biggestest prob is the fiberglass nose it has a 4-6 week period befor I get it becuase there built as ordered and im not to fond of fabing sub frames with out the nose here but atleast I can get started. Sorry for the lack of progress hopefully soon there will be some more leaps in progress

Finally got some news I got a harness from a 1992 tsi at a local salvage yard that was pretty mangled. I was going to buy the motor but they want led 600 $ for the block head and they had no idea if it was in running shape. Sadly no pics of the process as I only had 3 hours to remove practically the entire harness from front to rear of the car so time for pictures wasnt an option also scored a eprom ecu from the car so pretty happy about that.

Much more progress to come now that the daunting task of finding a 1g turbo talon never mind a one with an unmolested harness in n.h is now over.(1g dsms are are an almost extinct species and my town and the towns around it )

Finally started doings some welding and getting a start on my front subframe. My welds arent perfect but ive only welded on four other ocassions all with flux cure. All in all I think they came out pretty good though im sure they will get better as I continue building the sub frame
