Average improvement with race gas?

I was wondering what HP or quicker times are usually yielded by adding race gas? Roy at RRE said my car should be making about 300HP on pump gas and about 340HP on race gas, does that sound right?

So if I cut a 13.8@104 on pump gas


Theoretically, what could have been run on race gas, identical run? Thanks.

The gas itself is not gonna increase your HP. The higher octane allows you to turn the boost up more, there by adding HP and better track times.

not only that but u can lean it out a little more and run higher egts. with my s20g on pump gas i was running 110 mph traps, when i added race gas and did some leaning out, mph went up to 117mph. on pump gas i dynoed 346whp, with race gas im guessing 385whp, 7mph increase the quarter is a really big gain.

They pretty much summed it up. Like anything there is no assinged value of HP increase. It depends on the health of the engine, your tunning ability, and your particulaer setup. A 3065 will make a huge increase on racegas while a 16g will only see a marginal increase. Alot of this has to do with were the turbo in efficient. Toss some in and tune away until you get the most power. Have fun.

Thanks for the info guys, I am running a TD06 18G.

I thought power could be increased just by the lack of knock and running cooler with the race gas w/o altering your fuel maps. Guess I know now. Maybe I'll put in some 104 and up the boost to 21psi, think that will kill my stock-cored IC?

Yes, an 18G at 21 psi will heat soak the hell out of your SMIC. Thats the point of higher octane gas, its resistance to detonation. You can run more boost, higher timming advance, or hotter intake temps and not worry about pinging. I would upgrade to a FMIC and I bet your pumpgas performance will improve a decent amout.
