Im looking for some feedback on the autometer (p/n 4344) EGT kit. I installed mine the the #1 runner of an FP manifold as we have all seen plenty of times. Mine functioned exactly as it should for about 30 minutes before I literally watched the display go from actively reading out actual and accurate data, to the needle settling at approximately 400 and not moving from that position. I pulled over, cycled the key, the gauged did its startup routine , and returned to 400.

I went back to the shop and went through the whole install, everything appears to be in order, nothing loose. I really took my time and made sure the install came out mint so I suspect I got a lame unit. Ive also read of countless failures in these, but was hoping for some input from the DSMers. I have another kit I am going to steal parts from to troubleshoot tomorrow.

Has anyone else had this happen with these? Is there another better probe that can be used with this autometer gauge/line setup?

Thanks!! Jason

I've had the Autometer Sport-Comp EGT gauge for years now with no problems. I have had to replace the probe at least 3-4 times already (basically when I was using the car as a daily), but I've only ever used a Westach probe (part number 712-4D6K I believe). They used to be about $20, but now they're around $80, so I'll probably just get rid of the EGT all together if/when this probe dies, especially since I have a Wideband O2 also.

yeah I plan to head to the shop and start by swapping out the probe. Really annoyed to have to do this after only getting 30 minutes of use out of it. At least I have the part already and its right on top. Guess I will have to call them about swapping it out if I find the probe to be the issue. Thanks for the input!!
